Bloomville throws a party

BLOOMVILLE—The third annual Bloomville Block Party and Car Show is happening this Saturday, featuring a wide array of activities including games, rides, a parade, food and craft vendors, and more. The event will take place at the Bloomville Veterans Memorial and Beeghly Park, 10 Beeghly Ave. This year's block party is set to be the largest one yet with various new activities and attractions. The event began a few years ago as a way for the Bloomville community to reconnect with old friends, enjoy what the local area has to offer and celebrate the progress and improvements the community has made over the last few years. "The Bloomville Block Party is a great event for our village and an awesome way for the community to come together," said Mayor of Bloomville, David Auble Jr. "This year I'll even be taking a pie in the face to help raise money." There will also be appearances from local celebrities such as the "Big Nut" and Netflix star Jacob Hacker, as well as participation from many local organizations. Local Joe Gottfried will also be honored as the parade's grand marshall. Head of the Block Party, Leslie Brown Loose said the event "brings a strong sense of community for the people who attend by bringing everyone together to really get to know their neighbors." "In this day and age, so many people don't even really know their neighbors, and this really allows us to get to know each other," she continued. "It's also great for the kids because there are so many different school districts in the area, the kids don't always get to know other young people their age and this gets them all together as well." The schedule of events includes the following: 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Craft vendors will be set up in the Beeghly Pool parking lot 11 a.m., Parade followed by the opening ceremony on the main stage, with DJ Mr. Ed taking the small stage 11:30 a.m., Food vendors will become available as well as the Beer Garden Noon, Kids booths and face painting will be set up near the outfield fence, and life flight and Seneca County EMS will host a meet and greet with local celebrity, Jacob Hacker in the Beeghly Field area Noon-5 p.m., Austin Gibson and Bill Griffith late model race car photo ops 1-5 p.m., Car show, with trophies being presented at 4:30 p.m. near the Lion's Shelter 1-7 p.m., Free swimming at Beeghly Pool and free kid's inflatables and rides near the outfield fence 2-4 p.m., Lions Club bingo in the Community Center 2 p.m., OSI's Big Nut booth will open in the Beer Garden area 3 p.m., Wiffle Ball games in Beeghly Field 5 p.m., Corn hole in the Beer Garden area 5-7 p.m., One Foot in the Grave takes the Main Stage 8-11 p.m., Wally and the Beavs take the Main Stage 10:30 p.m., Reverse Raffle Drawing Finale at the Main Stage On Sunday, there will be Bloomville Lions chicken dinners in the community center beginning at 11 a.m. "People should know that this really came from a grassroots effort," said Brown Loose. "It's regular people coming together who care about Bloomville. We started out with zero people and zero dollars and we're just volunteers making it happen…. if you put your minds together to do something, you can really make wonderful things happen."
