Stockaders nip St. Joe on tiebreaker

FOSTORIA — It was so close, it nearly went to the second tiebreaker, but Cole Bender's 46 sealed Old Fort's win Thursday over Fremont St. Joe at the Sandusky Bay Conference River Division Shootout at Fostoria Country Club.The Blue Jackets took the victory after they and St. Joe ended regulation knotted at 170, with Bender edging Luke Jenkins by a stroke in the fifth-scorer slot.Calvert held off Hopewell-Loudon 173-178 for third, followed by Danbury (185), Gibsonburg (194), Sandusky St. Mary (196), Woodmore (200), New Riegel (202) and Lakota (202). New Riegel ended ninth over Lakota on a tiebreaker.St. Joe had a slim lead early in the team race, with Grant Pert firing a 39 for medalist honors and Cohen Stull adding a 41.Old Fort, meanwhile, got a 40 from Konnor Ernsberger and a 42 from Evan Combs to trail 80-82 early.The Stockaders made up the two-stroke difference when Carter Cleveland and Carter DuBois fired matching 44s while St. Joe got a 44 from Clay Stull and a 46 from Cooper Talikka.The resulting tie set the stage for each team's fifth scorer, with Bender pulling through for Old Fort.Ryan Adelsperger (48) also played for Old Fort.Kevin Ardner and Brody Cooper each shot a 41 for Calvert, Blake Coleman tallied a 43 and Gavin Wagner turned in a 48.Senecas Troy Shook (49) and A.J. Shoemaker (69) also hit the course.Cohen Sendelbach's 42 paced H-L. Ethan Carrel backed him with a 43, Wade Kreais shot a 46 and Caiden Helms had a 47.Chieftains Colton Savidge (48) and Tyler Foos (53) also competed.New Riegel's Shane Jones registered a 44, Asher Schalk added a 50, Brayden Schalk shot a 52 and Blake Moes and Mathew Flores each had a 56. Chieftains roll past HuronHURON — Hopewell-Loudon's first two golfers topped Huron's top player, and the next two Chieftains bettered the next two Tigers in a 172-197 rout Thursday at Thunderbird Hills North.Marissa Cline led everyone with a 38 for H-L and Aubrey Cline carded a 42. Jenna Brown and Megan Boes both added a 46 for the victors.Chieftains Raegan Miller (53) and Maddie Parkins (56) also competed.Madadelyn Porterfield keyed the Tigers with a 43, Teagan Miller had a 47, Gabby Brickner tallied a 52 and Kayla Weyer added a 55.
