Fliers steamroll Start

TOLEDO — Clyde's backfield-by-committee approach yielded four touchdowns and 157 yards and Brennan Wilson threw for 184 yards and another score Friday in a 44-12 domination of Toledo Start.Four different Fliers (2-0) tallied rushing touchdowns, but it took a while for the ground game to get going.Wilson connected with Brayden Olson for a 44-yard TD strike to snap a scoreless tie in the second quarter.Mason Flewelling added a 6-yard scoring scamper on his lone carry of the game a little later in the period and Tyler Soper hit a 27-yard field goal to send Clyde into halftime up 17-0.The Spartans (0-2) cut the deficit to 17-6 on Maurice Gray's 9-yard run in the third quarter, but Chancy Miracle countered with a 4-yard scoring run and Cayden Perkins returned a blocked punt 27 yards for another TD and a 31-6 advantage.Start's Billy Wertz hit Robert Jones with an 8-yard scoring strike in the fourth quarter, but Clyde answered with TD runs of 16 yards by Clark Norman and 11 yards by Drake Guhn.Norman led the Fliers with 45 yards rushing, while Adam Young had 31 yards and Miracle finished with 30.Olson added two catches for 69 yards and Kam Shortridge caught four passes for 51 yards.Wertz led the Spartans by rushing for 54 yards and throwing for 52. Galion clamps down in second halfGALION — Galion bottled up Carey's offense in the second half, and Braxton Prosser threw a pair of touchdown passes Friday as the Tigers rallied for a 21-14 win.It was a back-and-forth game throughout.Carey (0-2) struck first on Austin Niederkohr's 5-yard run at the 8:49 mark of the first quarter, but Prosser found Elijah Chalfin for the 24-yard equalizer with 2:11 left in the period.Eli Steen's 57-yard rumble early in the second quarter put the Blue Devils back up 14-7, but Prosser's 34-yard TD strike to Jacob Chambers just 2:41 later tied the game again.Carson Frankhouse bulled in from the 1 at the 5:50 mark of the third period to put Galion (2-0) on top for good, and the Tigers turned back Carey from there. Bucks blast St. JoeNEW WASHINGTON — Derex Dean threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more Friday as Buckeye Central walloped Fremont St. Joe 67-0.Dean had TD tosses of 34 and 14 yards to Heath Jensen and 48 yards to Jack Phillips and added scoring runs of 1 and 2 yards to help the Bucks (2-0) vault out 48-0 by halftime. He finished 11 of 14 passing for 216 yards.The Bucks also got touchdown runs of 13 and 2 yards from Phillips, 24 yards from Dom Dean, 10 yards from Isaac Hiler and 7 yards from Elijah Cline.Hiler ran 14 times for 103 yards, Dom Dean had seven carries for 74 yards and Cline finished with 68 yards on 12 rushes.Buckeye Central's defense held the Crimson Streaks to minus-2 yards rushing and zero yards passing. Rams ride passing game to victoryMOUNT GILEAD — Kaden Holman threw for 307 yards and four touchdowns Friday in Upper Sandusky's 26-12 win against Mount Gilead.The Rams (1-1) led 12-0 at halftime after TD tosses of 13 yards to Max Martinez in the first quarter and 8 yards to Damon Ward in the second.The Indians (1-1) halved the deficit with a touchdown in the third period, but Holman hit Gavin Frey for a 28-yard score, then found Martinez with the conversion pass for a 20-6 advantage at the 1:01 mark of the quarter.Mount Gilead found the end zone again about midway through the fourth quarter to get within 20-12, but Holman's 61-yard strike to Ethan Hill moments later to make it a two-score game.Hill finished with seven catches for 105 yards receiving and Martinez caught four passes for 72 yards.
