Combs, Stockaders shine at sectional

CLYDE — The goal since last year has been to get to state. Thursday, Evan Combs and Old Fort took the first step toward that goal with authority.Combs blistered the field by six strokes and the Stockaders earned their third Division III sectional title in a row and fourth in five years, this time by a 13-stroke margin, at Green Hills.The top three teams and top three individuals not on those teams earned berths to the Oct. 5 district at Stone Ridge in Bowling Green, but Combs and the Stockaders left little doubt they would make that trip.Combs fired a medalist round of 68 to fuel Old Fort's 313-326 margin of the sectional crown over Fremont St. Joe. Margaretta took the third and final district berth with a 331. Lakota ended 10th (414).Carter Cleveland backed Combs with an 80, Konnor Ernsberger shot an 81 and Ryan Adelsperger had an 84. Carter DuBois (95) rounded out the Stockaders.Carter Myers paced Lakota with an 86, Jack Reyna registered a 107, Cooper LaVigne had a 108 and Alex Speck ended with a 113. Brody Brubaker (116) also competed for the Raiders.The individual district berths went to Danbury's Gavin Clark (74), Western Reserve's Nolan Ryan (76) and Sandusky St. Mary's Blake Finneran (79). Blue Devils battle their way to districtFINDLAY — Carey missed out on the team title by four strokes, but the Blue Devils earned another week of play.The Blue Devils held off Riverdale 351-356 for the third and final district team berth Thursday at the Division III sectional tournament at Sycamore Springs.Arcadia nosed out Pandora-Gilboa 347-349 for the top team spot.New Riegel upended Hopewell-Loudon 361-366 for fifth.The top three teams and top three individuals qualified for the Oct. 5 district tournament at Stone Ridge in Bowling Green.Kobe Ratliff and Chase Mullholand carded twin 85s to spark Carey's run to the district.Nate Crawford added an 89 and Andrew Resendez had a 92. Brody Baker (93) also played for the Blue Devils.New Riegel's Blake Moes fired an 88, Asher Schalk added a 90, Shane Jones turned in a 91 and Mathew Flores tallied a 92. Brayden Schalk (96) also hit the course for the Blue Jackets.Hopewell-Loudon got identical 87s from Ethan Carrel and Cohen Sendelbach. Wade Kreais chipped in a 95 and Tyler Foos had a 97. Colton Savidge (101) completed the Chieftains.The individual district berths went to North Baltimore's Owen Clark (83) and the Riverdale duo of Evan Reiter (85) and Nathan Alge (85). Frankart's charge propels WarriorsGALION — Lance Frankart's medalist helped Mohawk push past Plymouth for a district berth Thursday at the Division III sectional tournament at Valley View.Wynford beat New London 342-351 for the team title, with the Warriors slipping past Plymouth 365-367 for third.The top three teams earned trips to the Oct. 5 district tournament at Stone Ridge in Bowling Green. The top three individuals not on those teams were also supposed to earn district berths, but the Valley View sectional will send four after two tied for the final spot.Seneca East's Jacob Bowerman earned his trip to the district with that tie, finishing knotted with Ridgemont's Dawson Manns with an 86.Frankart made sure he'd make the trip by leading everyone with a 77, three strokes better than co-runners-up Kevin Ardner of Calvert and Brody Sword of New London.Ardner's effort earned him a district berth and helped Calvert hold off Seneca East 369-375 for sixth. Buckeye Central finished ninth (393).Hunter Haynes backed Frankart with an 81 for Mohawk, Travis Geary shot a 99 and Chase Cole had a 108. Brayden Chester (109) also played for the Warriors.Ardner's score earned him a trip to the district.Gavin Wagner followed him with a 94 for the Senecas, Weston Burns added a 95 and Blake Coleman ended with a 100. Brody Cooper (103) rounded out Calvert.Along with Bowerman's score, Seneca East got a 94 from Aidan Hines, 95 from Thomas Ternes and 100 from Trey Miller. Garrett Bare (103) also played for the Tigers.Buckeye Central's Tyler Mason shot an 89, Cory Biglin turned in a 96, and Devin Siefert and Jeremiah Fishpaw each had a 104. Austin Estridge (115) also competed for the Bucks.Plymouth's Canaan Slone (85) claimed the other individual district berth. Redmen claim runner-up honorSANDUSKY — Tyson Baptista and Grant Woodruff fired matching 77s and Bellevue's next two scorers ended within five strokes of them Thursday as the Redmen finished as runners-up at the Division II sectional at Woussickett.Shelby upended Bellevue 309-316 for the team championship, with Galion holding off Cresview 326-329 for third.The top three teams and top four individuals not on those teams earned berths to the Oct. 5 district tournament at Eagle's Landing in Oregon.Clyde finished ninth (342) and Upper Sandusky came in 13th (363).Along with the scores by Baptista and Woodruff, Bellevue picked up an 80 from Daniel Ochenduski and an 82 from Cody Lindsey. Tyson Raymond (90) also played for the Redmen.Josh Swartz and Brayden Olson both carded an 81 for Clyde. Gavyn Boggs added an 89 and Nico Carroll had a 91. Ian McBroom (94) also hit the course for the Fliers.Upper Sandusky's Brock Montgomery earned one of the four individual district berths by firing a 78.Cy Young chipped in an 89 for the Rams, Arden Stansbery added a 97 and David Gibson shot a 99. Seth Smith (108) also competed for Upper Sandusky.Huron's T.J. Murray (76), Willard's Max Dawson (77) and Clear Fork's Landon Ball (79) joined Montgomery as individual district qualifiers. Perrysburg nips TCThree Columbian players shot a 40, but Perrysburg had a pair of sub-40s Thursday on the way to a 160-163 win over TC at Mohawk Country Club.Ryan Rettig fired a 38 and Josh Weisenburger shot a 39 to key the Yellow Jackets. Asher Lattimore backed them with a 40 and Rhys Mandery added a 43.Jace Riesen, Logan Smith and Gavin McLane each carded a 40 for the Tornadoes and Wyatt Heck had a 43.Columbian's Eli Snyder (44) and Brayden Boes (47) also played.
