Fostoria council appoints new president

FOSTORIA—During the regular Fostoria City Council meeting Tuesday evening, Councilperson Brian Shaver was appointed to the position of city council president—taking the place of Steve Kauffman, who resigned from his seat in late September. All members of city council voted "yes" to appointing Shaver, except for Shaver who abstained from voting. Shaver has also been the only candidate in the running for the upcoming election for city council president. In other news, the council passed an ordinance to adopt and amend ordinance number 2022-75, permanent 2023 appropriations, by appropriating from unappropriated funds in the city cleaning up fund and transferring appropriations in the general fund, water fund and sewer fund. The council also entered into executive session to discuss personnel matters, specifically the appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion or compensation of a public employee—and to consider the investigation of charges or complaints against a public employee. No business followed the executive session. The next Fostoria City Council meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Oct. 17 in the council chambers.
