Sandusky County Communities Foundation celebrates 25 years

FREMONT — Sandusky County Communities Foundation, a pillar of philanthropy and community development, marked its 25th anniversary with an event attended by nearly 140 guests at The Neeley Center. Over the past quarter-century, the foundation has played a pivotal role in supporting local nonprofits, addressing critical issues and fostering community growth. The anniversary celebration served as a moment to reflect on the foundation's achievements and to look forward to a promising future. "I stand before you today with a heart full of gratitude, appreciation and admiration for the remarkable individuals who have contributed to our organization's journey over the past 25 years," said Executive Director Andrea Gibson during the event. She thanked the original founders, past and present board members, fund owners, donors and supporters. "Today, we come together not only to recognize their invaluable efforts but also to celebrate the inspiration they have provided," she said. "As we move forward, let's continue to inspire one another, to reach even more lives, and to make our mark on the world. With your continued support, there's no doubt that we can achieve even greater things in the future." Angie Morelock, board chairwoman, updated attendees on the SCCF Giving Campaign, which has reached $84,000. A video was shared that highlighted the history of the foundation and the impact it has made in Sandusky County. "We are immensely proud to have reached this incredible milestone, and it's thanks to the unwavering support of the community that we've been able to achieve what we have today," Morelock said. "Our 25th anniversary celebration is a moment of reflection on our journey, appreciation for the relationships we've built, and a commitment to continue providing grants to nonprofits and individuals through our component funds and community grant program. "As part of our 25th anniversary, we decided to undertake a 25th anniversary Giving Campaign," she said. "While we are so proud of all that has been accomplished, we also know that we can have an even greater impact, which is why we set out asking the community to support the foundation and help us Connect People Who Care with Causes that Matter." Douglas Kridler, Fremont native and president/CEO of The Columbus Foundation, was the keynote speaker. He shared stories about his time growing up in Fremont, his professional achievements and how he lives by the workplace philosophy of "the importance of how much someone cares over how much someone knows." Kridler said he believes community foundations are worth the investment, and he challenged everyone to consider making a contribution to help reach their goal of $100,000 by the end of 2023. The evening was capped off by a check presentation from The Big Nut and First Lady, Jon Paul and Terese Peters, who contributed $10,000 to their fund at the Sandusky County Communities Foundation. Since 2009 more than $1 million has been awarded to non-profit organizations through the Community Grant Program, in addition to numerous scholarships.
