Local restaurant gives back

TIFFIN – Local business owner Chris Chase has yet again given back to the community. Chase, owner of MST Pub and MST Sauce Company presented another $1,500 check to Tiffin City Schools Director of Parent and Community Partnerships Michelle Tuite. He had also presented her with a check last year as part of a Facebook campaign. Last year's campaign he said he would donate a dollar for every like, share, comment and review on the restaurant's Facebook page. MST has done several fundraisers and made donations to the community over the years, but those are normally not publicized by Chase. "We don't do it for the notoriety, we do it to help the community," Chase told the A-T last year. "Being in the restaurant industry, we don't want kids to go hungry." "No better feeling than being able to help those in need this Holiday season," read a post from the eatery. "With your help, we were able to present a check for $1,500 to Michelle Tuite to help families around Seneca County. Thank you all for taking the time to snap a photo in front of the MST Mural. You are all a part of making someone's holiday a little better this year." In a social media post by Tuite, she said MST gives her coupons to feed kids during open lunches and answers her each time she asks the business for help. "There is some consideration on helping senior students pay down lunch debt so that they are able to meet the graduation requirements," she said of the donation. "The funds will also be used to purchase groceries for kiddos and their families as well as essentials such as shoes, coats and otherwise." She told the A-T there are many generous people in the community, who are always reaching out to provide help. However, she said one of the best donations people can give right now is their time. "We need volunteers to assist in working with students in their learning and also in social interactions," Tuite explained. "This could be a reading mentor at Noble or Krout, a Watch DOG (male role models only) at Noble and other opportunities as they present themselves. We can always use gas cards, grocery gift cards, new clothing and new shoes as well as new hygiene items." She then expressed her gratitude to the community. "It is imperative to share that while there have been so many needs exhibited with many of our students, those needs will be growing as the funding from Covid related grants will be gone in a few months," Tuite said.
