Dementia Caregiver Support

The Alzheimer's Association NW Ohio Chapter is looking for caregivers to start a new support group in Tiffin (Seneca County) and Norwalk (Huron County.) The groups provide an opportunity for members to exchange practical care giving information, challenges and possible solutions. Individuals within the support group are encouraged to share ways to adapt to the ongoing stress of care giving, assist family members in understanding the impact of the disease on family dynamics and develop realistic expectations of themselves and the person living with Alzheimer's or other dementia. This opportunity also connects people with similar experiences so they can support each other outside of meetings. Care givers will also help participants learn to appropriately advocate on behalf of their needs. Alzheimer's Association Caregiver Support Groups are free, ongoing meetings for caregivers of individuals living with Alzheimer's and other types of dementia. These groups provide a forum for caregivers to share feelings, needs and concerns in a confidential, safe, supportive, non-threatening and non-judgmental atmosphere. These support groups aim to help participants develop coping methods and encourage maintenance of their personal, physical and emotional health, as well as optimal care for the person living with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia.
