Reser resigns as Calvert football coach

Steve Reser was and always will be a Seneca. That's what he wanted the Calvert community to take away after resigning as football coach Wednesday morning.On Twitter, @CalvertAthletic shared the news that Reser had submitted a letter of resignation, along with a few thoughts. "A 1995 Calvert graduate, Steve had been at the helm of his alma mater's football program since 2018. The Seneca Nation has been fortunate to have his guidance, not to mention the presence of his father Mike on the sidelines with him for many years."The Calvert Nation would like to extend our gratitude to Steve for his commitment to our young men in conveying to them the importance of faith and family...followed by football...in addition to so many other character-building lessons about everyday life."Reser, who coached at Gibsonburg, took over the Senecas football program from Todd Fox in 2018 and went 9-2 in his first season. He followed that up with years of going 5-4, 5-2 (COVID), 4-6, 6-4 and most recently 8-2. He was 37-20 overall at Calvert. In the 2023 season, the Senecas were highly ranked in the state and were 8-0 before falling in the season finale to rival Hopewell-Loudon, and then losing in the playoffs to Convoy Crestview. Reser was named a Division VII northwest District Co-Coach of the Year by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association."The game of football has always held a special place in my heart, and having the opportunity to be a part of the Calvert football program for the last six years is something I will always be grateful for," Reser said in the statement. "The young men I have had the chance to meet and coach during this time have made it such a memorable experience and to be their coach has been a true honor."Thanks for taking me along for the ride. Go Blue!"Now the search for the 18th football coach in Calvert's history is underway.An attempt to reach Reser by phone Wednesday night was unsuccessful.
