Copper Mare Ranch offering eclipse camping, viewing

TIFFIN — Copper Mare Ranch is preparing to celebrate the April 8 solar eclipse by offering camping, fun and eclipse viewing. The ranch at 6090 N. SR 53, is in the middle of the eclipse path, and owner Grant Fatzinger has set aside about 20 acres of the horse facility's grounds. "We have no obstructed views and no city lights to ruin the experience," Fatzinger said. "We are located on a state route, which is very convenient, and there is a 30-foot driveway that can accommodate large trailers. There are no limits on trailer/camper lengths." Copper Mare Ranch is accepting reservations for trailer and tent camping. Both are primitive camping areas, although generators are welcome. The ranch's Rocket Donkey Diner will be on hand all weekend, offering a variety of homemade food. Eclipse enthusiasts will be treated to a variety of entertainment throughout the weekend leading up to Monday's big event. On Saturday evening, author/historian Lisa Swickard and psychic Lindsay Lawson will offer the ever-popular ghost/history walk around Fort Seneca. The area is one of the oldest in northwest Ohio, dating to the War of 1812. The walking tour includes thrilling stories combined with paranormal activity. For those who prefer to unwind in a more serene fashion, the ranch will offer a centralized campfire so people can relax and enjoy the evenings. Entertainment will be included with the price of the weekend's camping. The last time there was a solar eclipse of this magnitude was in 1806 when Thomas Jefferson was president and Lewis and Clark were wrapping up their expedition of the American West. Only 21 Great Eclipses have happened in the history of the United States. There will not be another until 2099. "We want to make sure people have the opportunity to make the best of their eclipse experience," Fatzinger said. "We look forward to hosting a great time at Copper Mare Ranch."
