Hyde visits Fostoria for Champions Club honors

FOSTORIA --- To borrow from an old Whitesnake song, Micah Hyde may not know where he's going, but he surely knows where he's been. And the 11-year veteran of NFL battles as a defensive back returned to his hometown of Fostoria on Thursday as part of his ongoing process of giving back to the community that he credits with raising him. Hyde's football career is in limbo these days as he prepares to weigh the various factors involved in the possibilities of retiring from the sport or preparing for a 12th season, either with his team of the last seven years, the Buffalo Bills, or another organization. Hyde's contract expires in March, making him a free agent. Before heading to their offseason home in San Diego, Hyde and his wife, Amanda, stopped by Fostoria Junior/Senior High School for an assembly in which he helped honor current members of the Micah Hyde Champions Club at Fostoria Junior/Senior High School. The club, having recently completed the second quarter of its third year, allows for students to accumulate points by playing at least two sports from seventh grade onward while also maintaining honor-roll level grades. Those reaching a particular point total by graduation will receive $5,000 from Hyde's IMagINe for Youth foundation to go toward their continuing education. Thom Loomis, the school's athletic director and head boys basketball coach, read the names of the current 49 qualifying students, who received certificates and congratulations from the Hydes and Micah's stepfather, Clayton Moore. Second-quarter Champions Club qualifiers for the second quarter of the 2023-24 academic year are: Grade 9: Noah Bernal, Barrett Hernandez, Kamari Johnson, Anthony Kleinmark, KK McBeth-McMullen, Reece Ramirez, Amaiyah Rodriguez, Ezekiel Sensabaugh, Landan Sherman, Dawson Smith, Boston Trent, Addison Wright. Grade 8: Laney Bauman, Cameron Bentz, Mason Cooley, Kaliyah Day, Alyssa Doogs, Adelayde Guernsey, Ty Hernandez, Lucas Klotz, Ahmani Lee, Mason Swann, Brin Weidner.
