Throwback Thursday

Today, we're comparing views of the beautiful Queen Anne Revival home at 214 S. Monroe Street in Tiffin, Ohio. The top photo came from a glass plate negative and we're looking towards the NW corner of S. Monroe and Charlotte Streets. We can see that there was a street light hanging above the intersection and there some type of handrails bordering the sidewalks on the corner. The bottom photo is how this home looks today which is now the Traunero Funeral Home. It looks like the home retains most of its original architecture except for the porte-cochere on the left that was replaced with a garage. This is a great example of a prominent family home that's over 140 years old, a home that's been well cared for and has found a use in today's world. This home was built for James Naylor about 1880. James M. Naylor was born in Wooster, Ohio on December 9, 1822. He engaged in many professions including: teaching, study of law, and a clerk in a hardware store. According to a 1902 Seneca County history, the Naylor's occupied "one of the finest brick residences in the city". In 1910, the home was owned by his nephew, E. B. Naylor, a banker. The house remained in the Naylor family until 1956, when George Pahl and Louis Nemeth purchased the house and opened a funeral home.
