Olson, Fliers erupt in victory

CLYDE — Brayden Olson had a big night of scoring and Clyde had a big quarter Tuesday as the Fliers rocketed past Maumee 66-53 in a Division II sectional semifinal.Olson scored his 1,000th career point in the third quarter, but Maumee doubled up the Fliers 16-8 that period to take a 40-36 lead into the final eight minutes.It didn't last.Clyde erupted for a 30-13 scoring burst in the final quarter to win going away and advance to Friday's sectional final against Toledo Rogers.Olson led the charge by pouring in a game-high 43 points, the fourth-highest single-game total in school history.Brennan Wilson backed him with six points for the Fliers (7-16).Cody Koepfler's 22 points topped the Panthers (5-17). Will Kubicz chipped in 16 points and Ben Kubicz scored 10. Foul shots propel Defiance past RamsUPPER SANDUSKY — Defiance shot well at the line late Tuesday, powering past Upper Sandusky 49-41 in a Division II sectional semifinal.Upper Sandusky ended the third quarter clinging to a 32-30 lead, but Defiance outscored the Rams 19-9 from there with the help of an 11-of-13 effort at the foul line over the final eight minutes.Kahill Ligon, Tone Lopez and Garret Rodenberger each hit a bucket and three free throws in the final quarter to fuel the Bulldogs (8-15) late.Ligon ended with a game-high 13 points, Lopez scored 12 and Rodenberger ended with nine. Jordyn Wright backed them with seven points.Brock Montgomery and Josh Heilman both scored 11 points for Upper Sandusky (13-10). Holden Daris netted nine points and Kaimen Iles had seven.
