A little bit of this kind of music and a little bit of that…

It was my good fortune to have had the privilege of seeing the late Victor Borge in person. He performed for two hours at BGSU several years ago and I laughed and applauded constantly.The piano playing comedian from Denmark was a master at his craft and it is from one of his routines that I stole my headline for this column. He had several sheets of music in hand when he told his audience that he was going to play a little bit of "this" kind of music and a little bit of "that" kind of music. After asking a patron if he liked music he offered him a sheet, which the man gladly took.Borge went on to check his other papers saying this is a this, and here's another this and yet another this. There seemed there was no "that" in his sheets. He then remembered he had given a piece to a gentleman in the front row. He held out his hand, took back the paper and said this is a that, here take this one. It's a this!For this column I am going to write about this and that. I might not be as funny as Victor Borge, but I hope you enjoy "this" anyhow.The Chicago Bears have the No. 1 pick in this year's NFL draft… for now at least. If they decide to move on from Justin Fields at quarterback, they are likely to take Caleb Williams the passer from USC with that pick. If they decide Fields is their answer at QB, then they may add Marvin Harrison to pair with his former Ohio State teammate.I suppose the Bears could trade the pick and see where the chips fall, but I'm guessing they will keep the pick and take one of the two aforementioned players. It is a guessing game though. Do you remember not long ago when the Browns had the first and fourth picks.They needed a quarterback and used that pick to take Baker Mayfield. He's still playing, but not for the Browns. The other three QB's that were considered in that draft were Josh Rosen (a nice decision to pass on him), Sam Darnold (likewise) and Josh Allen.Oops!!!My friend, who is both a Bears and Buckeyes fan, wants them to keep Fields and draft Harrison #1. He admitted though that the Bears have not called him for his input. Imagine that!It will be fun to watch how this draft unfolds, not just for the Bears, but your favorite team as well.Court storming is back in the news. There was a rumbling when Iowa's Caitlan Clark collided with an Ohio State student when the Buckeyes upset the Hawkeyes. Seriously, Caitlan Clark might just be the best female to ever suit up to play college basketball. The thought of her getting seriously hurt was scary for all basketball fans.That rumble grew much louder after a men's player – Duke center Kyle Filipowski injured his ankle when Wake Forest fans stormed the court after the Demon Deacons upset the Blue Devils.I watched videos of the two incidents. Clark's collision was much scarier as she was running off the court and got smashed. Filipowski's incident was bad and he stirred the pot a little bit by claiming the contact he received was intentional. Though I could not see evidence of that fact, I would not put it past some fans. Violence has permeated our society. Sports can not avoid that fact.However, I am left to wonder what is going to be done about it. Court storming has become a major issue and needs to be stopped. Exactly how, I'm not sure. Someone must have an idea and I hope we don't wait until a person is seriously injured before we end the practice.As you read this, we are returning from a couple of months in Florida. In fact I am writing this from Myrtle Beach. While in the Sunshine State I played several rounds of golf. It is different as we teed off at the crack of dawn – even earlier if you can believe it.As soon as there was enough light to "guess" where the ball was going, we hit it. Teeing off over a body of water that was not guaranteed to be cleared, you listened for a splash or a thud. In this case a thud was a good thing.I have found that the older I get, the "goals" of playing a round of golf have changed. It used to be that my main focus was posting a score. If I broke 80 I would be satisfied (at least in most cases) and the next hope was that I could score a birdie or two. My how that has changed.Today I have one primary goal and that is to NOT get hurt. If I can walk off the course feeling as good physically as I did when I started, I am content. Goal number two (at least in Florida) is to not lose too many balls to the alligators lurking in those ponds. And yes, I have decided to buy cheaper golf balls. It seems a waste to get expensive rocks that don't go any further because the golfer has become an "old" man!My hope is that I can play more often this summer. At least I won't have alligators watching my swing. If they are close enough, it is a little unnerving.How about one more Victor Borge line that I recall from his show. He went to the airport and ordered a round trip ticket. When the person asked "to where" he replied – to here of course!A little bit of this and a little bit of that...
