Seneca East awarded funds for career tech

ATTICA – Seneca East Local Schools received funds from the Career Technical Education Equipment Grant program. According to a press release, the funding assists schools in purchasing up to date technology to better prepare students for careers upon graduation. The recent expansion of the program expanded career technical education to an additional 10,345 students in the state. "Our career technical opportunities at Seneca East train students for employment in Agriculture and Agribusiness," Seneca East superintendent Dr. Laura Kagy told the A-T. "We plan to expand our offering and will be adding an additional Ag instructor in the 2024-2025 school year. We will increase course offerings at the middle and high school levels. This grant funding will allow us to purchase new equipment and provide professional development." The grant will allow the district to construct an agriculture lab. The lab allows animal scientists to visit the district and educate students on animal feeding trials, birthing demonstrations and livestock judge. Lab space will also be dedicated for the district to harvest and store lumber for school-owned works. "Our district has a rich agriculture background and this project will build upon this history and passion for future careers in this growing industry." 56 schools received grants, totaling more than $67.7 million, the governor's office said.
