You're going to need a scorecard for the 2024 NFL season

March is a sports lovers dream month. So many sports have the finish or beginning of their seasons in March that it is sometimes hard to know where to look. If you are like me, you just expand your vision and take it all in.The first thing one normally things about this time of year is March Madness. The NCAA women's and men's basketball tournaments are nearly ready to start. All we need are the pairings and we can fill out our brackets. Then in a matter of days our brackets will be busted. We know there will be several upsets, but if you pick the wrong ones, well… busted!The NBA regular season is winding down as teams jockey for a good playoff seeding. Major League Baseball's Spring Training is well underway and it is time for optimism for "our" team. How long will it take for that bubble to burst?Golf is holding the Players Championship this weekend. The Masters will follow next month. If you are a linkster, you will be watching the action on the tube and will be chomping at the bit to be our there yourself. This week saw some local golfers, including myself, hit the links for the first time this year.The only sport that doesn't seem to be on the radar is football. Wait, what? With the busiest free agency signing period in recent memory, the NFL has taken at least some of the publicity in the sports world. As you guessed from the title, that's what I will be writing about.So many players will be with new teams come fall, that it is nearly impossible to keep a record of the transactions. I have been following them, including some startling salaries, and will do my best to update you. You have my permission to keep this column for your fantasy football drafts coming up in a few months.I really don't know where to start this list. Do I start with quarterbacks, running backs, or wide receivers? Do I make a big deal out of the contracts? It is entirely likely that some of the best deals teams will make involve defensive players or offensive linemen, but they don't get as much attention. For whatever reason, I am just going to start naming names and we will see where it goes.The Buffalo Bills signed quarterback Mitch Trubisky to a 2 year $5.25 million dollar deal. It is likely that he won't see much action if Josh Allen stays healthy so I would label this a good gig for Trubisky. Do you remember Cliff Stoudt? History does repeat itself.Jacoby Brissett will return to the team that drafted him as he signed a 1 year deal with the Patriots for $8 million. At least he will have a chance to win the starting job as Mac Jones was traded to Jacksonville where he will backup Trevor Lawrence.One of the biggest running back signings was Saquon Barkley. He will now tote the rock for the Eagles to the tune of 3 years and $37.75 million. Barkley will be with a more potent offensive team, but will he score as much? Remember the Eagles love to use the "tush push" around the goal line. Derrick Henry will now play for the Ravens after signing a 2 year $16 million deal. Will he limit Lamar Jackson's rushing touchdowns. Fantasy owners beware.The biggest deal at least money wise, was the Atlanta Falcons signing Kirk Cousins to a 4 year $180 million deal. Will that work out? Time will tell. Baker Mayfield, the former Browns number 1 pick, resigned with Tampa Bay for 3 years and $100 million. That's a bit hard to fathom.One team that will not be paying big bucks is the Pittsburgh Steelers even though they signed a big name quarterback. Russell Wilson will sign a league minimum $1.21 million dollar contract. Don't feel sorry for him. The Denver Broncos have to pay him $37.79 million from his current contract. Why would Pittsburgh not take this risk?Here are a few big name running backs that changed teams. Josh Jacobs went to the Packers for 4 years and $48 million. Austin Ekeler signed with Washington for 2 years and $11.43 million. Tony Pollard signed with the Titans for 3 years and $24 million. New England landed Antonio Gibson with a 3 year $11.25 million contract.After the Bengals signed Zach Moss, they traded Joe Mixon to the Texans. Aaron Jones was released by Green Bay after signing Josh Jacobs, but he landed in Minnesota on a one year deal. Likewise D'Andre Swift left Philly after the Barkley deal and ended up with the Bears. I would give you their contract deals, but quite frankly I am tired of writing the word million!Here's some random quarterback signings. The Browns picked up Jameis Winston to back up DeShaun Watson. The crab legs incident is long forgotten. Gardner Minshew will take his mustache to Las Vegas with a 2 year $25 million deal. Ageless Joe Flacco will take his place with the Colts. Tyrod Taylor will back up Aaron Rodgers in New York. Sam Darnold will be with the Vikings to the tune of 1 year and $8.75 million.Want more? Desmond Ritter leaves the Falcons for the desert and the Cardinals. Drew Lock lands with the Giants. Marcus Mariota signs with the Commanders. Finally, Mason Rudolph heads to the Titans on a 1 year $2.87 million deal. I tell you it's madness.I have little time left, but let's look at a few wide receiver deals. Gabe Davis leaves the Bills for a 3 year $39 million deal with the Jaguars. Curtis Samuel will pick up his roster spot for the Bills signing for 3 years and $24 million. If he comes close to replacing Davis' numbers then it's a $15 million windfall for Buffalo.Calvin Ridley was suspended by the NFL a few years ago, but he is back in a big way. He signed a 4 year $92,000,000 deal with the Titans. It's a good time to be an NFL star!By the way, where's that program...
