Yellow ribbons in downtown

MILAN --- The Southern Care Hospice has placed yellow ribbons in and around downtown to continue the "Welcome Home Celebration of Vietnam War Veterans." "We have been hanging up the yellow ribbons since 2021," Chad Huhra, social worker of Southern Care Hospice, said. "After seeing it done by a group of Vietnam Veterans in Berea." Each year Southern Care Hospice picks a different city in communities it serves to hang ribbons to help build awareness of Vietnam War Veterans Day, which is today. The Vietnam War Veterans Day Act of 2017 was signed into law by former President Donald Trump, it is to be celebrated on March 29. This day is to recognize Americans who have served in the Vietnam War. March 29, 1973, was also the day United States Military Assistance Command, Vietnam was disestablished, also the last day US combat troops departed Vietnam, according to the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration. "Serving veterans is important in recognizing the sacrifices that were made in giving us the opportunities and freedoms that we enjoy," said Huhra. Southern Care Hospice serves patients and families in Seneca, Sandusky, Ottawa, Erie, and Lorian countries. They are always looking for volunteers who like to play games, listen to stories, garden, hang pictures, and provide companionship to those in Hospice care.
