Bellevue man killed in accident Friday

GROTON TWP. --- A Bellevue man was killed in a single-vehicle accident Friday evening. According to Ohio State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at about 6:36 p.m. on SR 4 in Groton Township of Erie County. Randy L. Ulery Jr, 46, of Bellevue was traveling south on SR 4 when he traveled off the side of the road, striking two trees and a tree stump. His vehicle was "fully engulfed" following the crash, authorities said. Ulery was trapped inside the vehicle, suffering fatal injuries in the crash. He was then "mechanically extricated" from his vehicle. Authorities were unable to immediately determine if Ulery was wearing his seatbelt, they said. It is also unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash, according to law enforcement. The crash remains under investigation. Erie County Sheriff's Office, Groton Township Fire Department, North Central EMS, Erie County Coroner's Office, Ransom Funeral Home and Central Auto Towing responded to the scene.
