Area at moderate severe weather risk

SENECA COUNTY – The National Weather Service has predicted that the area is at moderate risk for severe weather today. A weather briefing described the moderate risk as "unusual for our area". The risk brings about the possibility that the area could see damaging winds up to 80 MPH, hail with a 1–2-inch diameter and "significant" tornadoes. According to the NWS, the winds will cause wind damage and power outages, the hail could cause damage to cars and homes and a "few" tornadoes are possible and could be "strong or long-lived in nature." If severe weather does reach the area, the NWS expects the weather to begin in the late afternoon and last through the evening. The NWS shared the following tips considering the moderate risk: Be weather-aware and ready to act Have multiple ways to receive warning information Seek shelter immediately if a Tornado Warning is issued Go to a basement! If a basement is unavailable go to the lowest interior room of a sturdy building
