Summer fun in Tiffin

TIFFIN --- The City of Tiffin's Parks and Recreation Department continues to bring special events for residents. Thursday Night Tunes "Thursday Night Tunes started Fall of 2019 when Cindy Jordan found three local bands that would kick off this is tradition," Parks Director Bryce Kuhn explained. The performances will start at 7 p.m. June 20 each Thursday and will continue until Aug. 15, excluding July 4. Thursday Night Tunes finishes with Band Bash, which features marching bands from all over the county. "TNTs are booked through our department at the beginning of the year," he said. "Operations Manager Mason Correll has an ongoing list of local musicians who we've seen play at other venues around the town along with those who reach out to us. This list changes every year with a couple of groups who return. We know TNTs are a big hit and want to make sure that we are up with our local performers." Correll also organizes the Band Bash. He works with local high school marching band directors for the event, reviewing dates and times for each school. Kuhn said the groups perform a couple of songs together. Band Bash was known as the National City Bank Summer Splash event, hosted at Hedges-Boyer Park. The 2023 season of Thursday Night Tunes was the first year the department found a sponsor for the event. "Croghan Colonial Bank is our main sponsor for this year's event now. They like seeing their donation be put to use within the community." This year's bands include: June 20 - No Eileen June 27- Chad Solo July 11 - Fritz Acoustic July 18 - The Tuesday Crowd July 25 - Jake Heil Music Aug. 1 - Flattop Republic Aug. 8 - Mike Risner Music Aug. 15 - Band Bash 2024 Oakley Park clean-up Kuhn said Cindy Jordan has spearheaded the clean-up event for the past 11 years. This year's clean-up had 27 volunteers, and similar events saw 15 – 40 or more volunteers, depending on the location. "If any group would like to organize a park clean-up, they need to reach out to our department to set up a date and time. We will provide gloves and trash bags if needed." Youth Fishing Derby Tiffin's Parks and Recreation Department has partnered with the Izaak Walton League for over 30 years for the Youth Fishing Derby. "Their ongoing support with the department is much appreciated over these years," Kuhn said. The derby is free for children 17 and under. It is organized into three age groups, with categories such as most fish caught or most unique fish for each group. The derby begins at 9 a.m. June 1 at the Tiffin-Seneca Izaak Walton League, 3570 N CR 33. "We do not charge for any of our extra special events," Kuhn said. "The only revenue we receive is for our day camps, adult sand volleyball league and swimming pool." "We offer a wide variety of different camps, special events and outdoor activities. We love seeing everyone in the parks making memories with their families.
