TU celebrates students

TIFFIN --- Tiffin University celebrated students Saturday during its commencement ceremony at the Heminger Center, 151 Miami St. There were 825 graduates who received degrees, with over 500 participating in the ceremony. Addressing students was JoAnn Chavez, who served as the senior vice president and chief legal officer at DTE Energy. Additionally, she was awarded a Doctor of Humane Letters degree in recognition of her contributions to her field. "Class '24, dream big, knowing that your hard work, perseverance, and commitment will pay off and that the sky is the limit for each of you; you are expected to do extraordinary things," Chavez said. "So go out and change the world. Si tu puedes, yes, you can." Chavez added, "You cannot un-educate the person who has learned to read. You cannot humiliate that person; you cannot oppress those who are not afraid anymore. We are not afraid anymore." Graduates from various states and countries, such as Ohio, Michigan, Colorado, New York, Italy, China and Romania, received university awards. Catherine Webb was awarded the Student Leadership, Jordon Speller Scholar-Athlete and Danielle Davis Provost awards. Meadow Boggs from Sandusky is a four-year graduate with bachelor's degrees in criminal justice, law enforcement, and psychology. She is considering a career as a police officer or a park ranger and Jaden Wimbush from Northfield is also a four-year graduate with a bachelor of arts in addiction counseling and psychology. He plans to further his education and pursue a master's degree at TU. The graduates earned degrees from the following programs: School of Business, Criminal Justice and Social Science, Creative and Media Arts, Education and Extended Learning and Science Technology and Health. Lillian Schumacher, president of TU, said, "We sincerely hope that we have positively impacted your life during your journey with us at Tiffin University. Your achievements and successes have brought us here, and we are very proud of every one of you. We want you to know that you will always be part of the Tiffin University family and considered dragons for life."
