Calvert students watch Papal conclave

The story is reprinted here today with a photo from Thursday's event. TIFFIN — Calvert students and faculty gathered Thursday afternoon to witness the announcement of Pope Leo XIV. Father Matt Radar, pastor of St. Mary Church, spoke to students and guests in the St. Mary gymnasium about the election and announcement process, sharing details of what was taking place at the Vatican. A live stream of the event was being shown on a projector screen in the gym, and students cheered and chanted "USA" when Radar announced the new Pope was an American. Following the announcement and blessing by the Pope, a May Crowning celebration took place at St. Mary Church. Senior students honored the Blessed Virgin Mary with flowers, and Father Anthony Coci, pastor of St. Joseph Church, spoke of the devotion Catholics have for Mary as the Mother of Jesus. Thursday's service was the last K-12 gathering of Calvert students for the 2024-2025 school year.
