Camp Glen gets new owners

TIFFIN—Camp Fire Sandusky County will operate Camp Glen in Tiffin beginning July. "This is an exciting transition for us," Rob Ledwedge, Camp Fire Sandusky County marketing director, said. "We are in the final stages of taking over Camp Glen, a wonderful opportunity presented to us by the previous management from Findlay." There are only three Camp Fire camps in Ohio; Camp Fire of Sandusky will run two, and the last Camp Fire is by the Pennsylvania border. Northwest Ohio trustees currently own Camp Glen. "Camp Glen allows us to offer four-day residential overnight camps, while Misty Meadows (Camp Fire) in Fremont will continue Summer Day camps," Ledwedge said. "This will be the first time we are doing overnight residential camps, and we are excited to start the new camp," Ledwedge stressed. "You don't know how often kids will tell me stories about what they learned at camp, from catching their first fish to what they learned, and now that we have two camps, it will add to that experience." Camp Glen offers residential camping and a bonus: a high rope course, with poles towering 20 to 25 feet off the ground, designed to challenge older kids, adults, team training, and businesses. "This rope course hasn't been maintained, so we need to repair it," he said. "We are currently applying for grants for that project. Many people see online that we have this rope course and are upset that it's not running yet, but I can't wait to get on it myself when it's fixed." In June, Camp Fire Sandusky County at Misty Meadows will start its summer programs until the end of August. These Camps are for Grades K-6 and take place from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Starting In July, three Camp Glen residential camps will provide overnight camping experiences for grades 3-6.
