Senecas get revenge, run-rule St. Mary

After a shocking loss at to Sandusky St. Mary last week, the Panthers wanted another crack at Calvert Thursday in a Division IV sectional final. However, the result was much different this go around. Calvert led 2-1 after an inning, but then shut out the Panthers the rest of the way in an 11-1 run-rule win.With the victory, the Senecas (20-4) will take on Norwalk St. Paul at Oak Harbor Wednesday at 2 p.m. Calvert tallied 11 hits at the plate as Blake Coleman lined three singles, AJ Shoemaker (2 RBI) and Jacob Kidwell (RBI) each had two singles and Harrison Shultz, Cash Lee and Logan Ritzler all singled and drove in a run.Coleman got the win on the hill, allowing a run on nine hits in six frames. He struck out eight and walked just one on 106 pitches. Fritz-led Tigers advance to district semisATTICA — Seneca East's Caden Fritz made sure his Tigers wouldn't have a sectional-round exit as he was the winning pitcher with 11 strikeouts and was 3 for 3 at the plate with a triple, a double, a single and three RBIs to lead the Tigers to a dominant 10-0 win over Ridgemont in a Division IV sectional final.With the win, the Tigers (15-12) will face N10 foe Mohawk (18-6) at Galion Wednesday at 2 p.m. Fritz went all five innings and scattered three hits and allowed only one walk. Aidan Hines doubled, singled and drove in a pair of runs, while Jake Bowerman singled and drove in a pair of runs, Nicholas Parks singled twice and drove in two runs and Luke Mason and Blake Foos each singled. Warriors start fast, advanceSYCAMORE — The bats were hot starting out Thursday as Mohawk tallied five runs in the opening inning against New London in a Division IV sectional final.In the end, the Warriors handled the Wildcats 10-0.With the win, the Warriors (18-6) take on N10 rival Seneca East (15-12) in a district semifinal at Galion Wednesday at 2 p.m. Ben Bogner tripled, singled and drove in three runs for Mohawk, while Kaleb Bish lined a pair of singles and Hunter Haynes, Travis Geary and Brayden Chester all singled and drove in a run.Bish was the winning hurler on the bump, giving up just two hits in five innings. Hall's RBI-1B lifts Golden BearsBASCOM — The saying is: 'It's hard to beat a team three times.'That was evident Thursday in a Division IV sectional final as Hopewell-Loudon hosted Gibsonburg. During the regular season, H-L handled Gibsonburg twice (12-2 and 7-3), but it was a different story Thursday. After sending the game into extra innings, it was Gibsonburg that broke through as Jake Hall hit an RBI single in the top of the eighth that won the game 4-3 for the sixth-seeded Golden Bears as they upset the second-seeded Chieftains.Caine McDonald (2 RBI) and Kellen Frankart each produced two hits for H-L (19-5), while Thomas Daniel tripled and drove in a run. But Norwalk St. Paul battled back to steal a 2-1 Division IV sectional final win from the Stockaders with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh.Old Fort (13-11) managed four hits off of St. Paul ace Kole Maxwell as Ryan Adelsperger singled twice and Konnor Ernsberger and Blake Bender each singled.Carter Cleveland suffered the tough-luck loss for the Stockaders. He gave up a run on five hits in 6 1/3 innings.
