Jackyl, Frehley and Michaels set to headline during block party

SANDUSKY — Ohio Bike Week, which starts May 24, is known for the three B's: bikes, brews and bands. This year more than 50 bands will perform during the 10-day motorcycle rally. Bike week organizers routinely secure national touring acts to headline each night during the block party in downtown Sandusky. Bands that have headlined during the block party in the past include Lita Ford, Slaughter and Saliva. This year is no different and three acts that are well known to rock music lovers will grace the main stage at Jackson Street Pier during the block party. Thursday, May 30 For more than a decade, the hard rocking band Jackyl has headlined the opening night of the block party. This year is no different. Jesse James Dupree, Jeff Worley, Chris Worley and Roman Glick are known for their songs "I Stand Alone," "Dirty Little Mind" and "The Lumberjack." Dupree will also host a charity motorcycle ride. During the 2023 charity ride, more than 150 bikes participated. The cost was $20 and all proceeds benefited Family Health Services. In the more than decade of Dupree hosting the ride, it has raised over $100,000 for nonprofits. Friday, May 31 The Friday night headliner is Ace Frehley, former Kiss lead guitarist. He played with the band from its inception in 1973 until 1982 and then again from 1996 until 2002. Frehley is known to play with several special effects guitars, including ones that emit smoke, produce light beams or fire off pyrotechnics. Kiss is known for its band members taking on personas while performing and wearing costumes and using face paint. Frehley invented the Spaceman persona. The 73-year-old, New York-born rocker is still putting out new music. His most recent album, "10,000 volts," was released this year and debuted at number 73 on the Billboard 200 chart. During a March show in New York City, Frehley played Kiss hits like "Love Gun," "Shout it Out Loud" and "Detroit Rock City." Saturday, June 1 Poison frontman Bret Michaels will headline the final night of the block party, as a solo artist. Michaels' more than 40 years as Poison's lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist has seen the band sell more than 65 million albums worldwide. The band has also charted six singles in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. Michaels and Poison are perhaps best known for their power ballad, "Every Rose Has Its Thorn." That song peaked at number one after its 1988 release. The band is also known for such hits as "Talk Dirty to Me," "Nothin' But a Good Time" and "Unskinny Bop." Venue These acts will play at the Progressive Insurance Main Stage at Jackson Street Pier. The concerts are free to attend but there is a VIP area close to the stage that can be accessed for a fee. In addition to proximity to the stage, the VIP area also has its own bar and restrooms. Two opening bands will precede the headliners each night. The VIP area will open at 6 p.m. each day.
