Woodland nabs top N10 honor

Mohawk's Katie Woodland became the first freshman in Northern 10 Athletic Conference softball history to be named the conference's player of the year.The N10 released its annual all-conference list Thursday, with Woodland topping a collection of several area players receiving honors.Woodland led the N10 with a .570 average, eight home runs, 57 RBIs and 45 runs. She finished second in the conference with 12 doubles and added three triples.She and the Warriors won the N10 with a 12-2 mark and finished 20-5 overall, bowing out in the district semifinals.Woodland was joined on the first team by classmates and teammates Aubrey Gottfried and Emily Brickner.Mohawk's Mindy Walton was named co-coach of the year with Upper Sandusky's Scott Morris.Other area players on the first team included the Carey senior trio of Mackenzie Simons, Rylee Row and Kynlee Phillips, the Upper Sandusky duo of sophomore Madison Hart and junior Hope Morris, and Buckeye Central junior Grace Collene.Colonel Crawford seniors Allison Weithman and Hannah Allen and Wynford freshman Brooke Frombaugh rounded out the first team.The second team had area players A.J. Chevalier and Mallory Brickner of Mohawk; Upper Sandusky's Addy Johnson, Ella Frombaugh and Bailey Fox; Buckeye Central's A.J. Jury; Carey's Riley Brodman; and Seneca East's Myah Geary.The Bucyrus duo of Marissa Middleton and Haylee Stratton, Colonel Crawford's Rylie Hoepf and Wynford's Lily Laipply completed the second team.Honorable mention awards went to area players Zoey Hoskins of Buckeye Central, Kyla Orians of Carey, Josie Granata of Mohawk, Alaina Chapman of Seneca East, and Ava Saull.Kendra Blizzard of Bucyrus, Madison Cobb of Colonel Crawford and Rylee Robinson of Wynford also ended on the honorable mention list.
