What is a newspaper?

It is a physical, nearly everyday print phenomenon and a spot in cyberspace, with essential information shared on each medium. But it is other things beyond the tangible. • It is a masthead, a promise of strong and sturdy reporting. A masthead that, in our case, goes back hundreds of years. • It is a part of the fabric of a community, a connector and defender of a corner of the world, a watchdog, a cheerleader, a tribune. • It is a collection of employees dedicated to a craft. It's both our current team and all the employees who came before this moment in time. It's also those who will come in the future. Nothing gets done without each of these people, but the newspaper is more significant than any one person. • It is a physical location where employees gather and the community is always welcomed. Yes, a newspaper is all of these things, and likely more. It's both tangible and abstract—a physical good and an ideal. As our history continues to unfold, we want to inform our readership of some changes with The Advertiser-Tribune. To conclude the last bullet point, our physical location is soon changing as we are moving out of 320 Nelson St. Our reporting team will continue to bring you local coverage; starting Monday, June 24, we will not have a physical office in Tiffin. Some points of clarity: We're still a newspaper—the newspaper—in Seneca County. We'll still publish six days a week. Our editorial team will continue to be Tiffin-centered, covering the schools, politics, and lives of the people in Tiffin and Seneca County. They will still hold weekly staff meetings in Tiffin. We hope to invite the public to these meetings soon. They will not have physical desks in town. You'll still be able to make payments, purchase ads, or talk to someone in person if you prefer. Our office in Fostoria, at 322 N. Main St., will be open every morning if you want to talk to someone. We will also have an out-front drop box for those wishing to drop off a payment physically.
