TCS approves new superintendent

TIFFIN --- At the Tiffin City School District's Board of Education meeting Monday evening, the board officially selected current Interim Superintendent Gerald Nadeau as the district's official superintendent, starting Aug. 1. Nadeau has earned his alternative superintendent's license and is beginning to gain a superintendent's license. He has over 25 years of experience in education. Before joining Tiffin City Schools, Nadeau spent 15 years teaching special education and coaching. He also has experience as a transition coordinator and special education coordinator/consultant and 9 years of experience working in non-profit education organizations. Nadeau's contract ends July 31, 2027. Also at the meeting, Assistant Superintendent Robert Boes presented the fourth quarter Crystal Apple Awards to Columbian High School teacher Emily Boone and Athletic Department Secretary Patty Davis. "I am proud to be a TCS alumni," Boone said. "I love the work that I do and I feel blessed to work with such an amazing group of colleagues." "I really try to do my best," said Davis. "It's my objective to make sure that our students and community are taken care of." During the superintendent's report, Nadeau discussed staffing, stating that while some needs still need to be addressed, the administrative team has made great progress. He shared that the district's professional development plan is being finalized to meet state and district needs. Some staff members will begin professional development training in July. Nadeau also discussed three summer learning programs, including a high school, extended school year services for students with disabilities, and third-grade reading programs. "We've seen so many great positives from those three programs," he said. "We had two students from Tiffin Columbian High School that were able to finish and finalize all their (graduation) requirements." Lastly, he discussed the district's cell phone policy in light of recent state legislation that requires school districts to have a cell phone policy. While the district already has a policy, area superintendents are working together on a consistent policy to recommend to their boards. The board then passed the following action items: 8.1 - Approve Connie English SLP Service Coverage Agreement 2024-2025 8.2 - Approve E-Sports as Official TCS Sport 8.3 - Approve Health Insurance Rates 8.4 - Approve TEA OTES 2.0 Evaluations MOU 8.5 - Approve TEA Flex Days MOU 8.6 - Approve Superintendent Employment Contract 8.7 - Approve Compensation Step Increase of 2.25% for Administrators and Supervisors effective with the 2024-2025 Contract Year, for all returning administrators, supervisors and management level employees, who were employed pursuant to O.R.C. 3319.02 during the 2023-2024 Contract Year and who have not already received a step increase. 8.8 - Adopt Resolution to Withdraw from NOACSC 8.9 - Approve Motion to Direct Public Notice 8.10 - Adopt Resolution Authorizing Transfer of Monies from the Bond Retirement Fund to a Specific Permanent Improvement Fund 8.11 - Approval of Final FY24 Appropriations and Revenues 8.12 - Approve FY25 Permanent Appropriations 8.13 - Approve FY25 Temporary Appropriations 8.14 - Approve Corrective Action for Asbestos Discovered During Demolition The board has canceled its meeting in July. The next meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Aug. 26 at Tiffin Middle School, 103 Shepherd Dr.
