How to rent smart

TIFFIN — Tiffin Women in Action (TWIA) is proud to award Transformation Life Center a grant for $800, to go toward its Rent Smart 2017 program. Rent Smart 2017 focuses on the knowledge and skills essential for a successful renting experience, and challenges participants to know and understand their rights and responsibilities as a tenant, as well as know and understand the rights and responsibilities of their landlord. Emphasis is on forming a strong partnership between the tenant and landlord. Establishing a positive rental history is much like having a positive credit report and Rent Smart starts participants on the path for success. The curriculum provides a detailed outline of topics, activities, and teaching resources. TLC started this program about three months ago and have had 3 women successfully complete Rent Smart. At completion they are provided with a certificate to show to prospective landlords to help them in showing their investment in being a good tenant. The grant received through TWIA will allow the TLC to provide all necessary materials for the Rent Smart program to our clients at no charge. In addition, we will be able to provide an incentive, Kroger gift cards, to motivate active participation. Since opening their doors in September of 2022, TLC has served 26 women and 18 kids. Out of those 15 women and 11 kids were able to move on into their own apartments/homes. While residing at the TLC women receive case management, life skills, Rent Smart, and referral to other needed services. In addition, the TLC has had numerous partnerships with local organizations and businesses to ensure the mission is furthered. Leadership Seneca County fundraised to purchase a large storage shed for them to store donations. Concordance Healthcare Solutions and Steele Solutions just finished the shed and fence around the new outdoor play area. The Transformation Life Center is blessed to have the continued support of our community. The TLC is always in need of cleaning supplies, hygiene items, and paper products.
