Ameriwood parent company official confirmation of factory repurpose

Dorel Home Furnishing's Tiffin, Ohio ready-to-assemble (RTA) furniture plant is being repurposed from a manufacturing operation into a distribution center as a result of the continuing downturn in the furniture industry, according to an official statement. According to the statement, manufacturing will be transitioned to the Cornwall, Ontario factory. Dorel Industries Inc. (TSX: DII.B, DII.A) acquired the Tiffin plant as part of the purchase of Ameriwood in 1998. Tiffin's 200 employees, including hourly paid workers and management, were given a 60 day notice today, the statement continued. Local and state officials have been informed of the situation. "We have maintained operations at Tiffin as long as possible, but persistent high interest and mortgage rates have depressed the furniture industry for the past two years, and furniture sales are down more than other consumer products. We sincerely regret the need to cease manufacturing at Tiffin and realize the impact this will have on the workers involved and their families," stated Ray Toal, president of Dorel Home Furnishings. "We are shifting manufacturing to the Cornwall factory as soon as next week. This will better utilize the facilities at Cornwall which were upgraded in a multi-million-dollar program in 2021 and will ensure continuity for our customers."
