Lakota welcomed new kindergarten teacher

KANSAS – The Lakota Schools Board of Education met Monday, congratulating Morgan Leja on her position as the new kindergarten teacher. Leja has 5 years of previous experience in a similar position, and the Board was happy to welcome her. During committee reports, Board member Nancy Timmons, on behalf of Vanguard-Sentinel Career and Technology Center, shared that Vanguard has received the ASPIRE grant for Adult Education for $278,340.00 and the Career Technical and Adult Education (Carl Perkins) grant in the amount of $324,491.05 Board member Tim Woodruff shared that band, football and other camps were underway. Superintendent Chad Coffman shared his report which reviewed the Disadvantaged Pupil Aid and Student Wellness & Success Report for Fiscal Year 2024. "The Lakota Local School District has received funds designated to assist disadvantaged students and promote student wellness and success.," Coffman said. "We believe the best use of these funds is an investment in extending the school day for kindergarten students and in student support personnel." Treasurer Dan Elchert reviewed his recommendations, including approving a comprehensive continuous improvement plan for the 2024-25 school year, before Dr. Coffman made several personnel recommendations.
