Teen Adventures at the Library

As we approach the end of this year's Summer Reading Program, it's important to remember that the library offers fun for all ages, including teens. Along with encouraging teens to seek new adventures through reading, we've had multiple programs that encouraged teens to look outside of Tiffin and imagine new places to visit and explore. They created scrapbook style postcards themed around a place that they might like to visit, whether they wanted to travel across the ocean or just to Cedar Point. Using printed maps and their creativity, teens designed and made pinback buttons to add to their backpacks for their future travels. For more fun bag decor, they created keychains from shrink plastic. This type of craft is great for creating completely personalized designs that are durable and perfect for customizing a backpack or keychain. Along with decor for traveling, we also created items to decorate their space at home. Using colorful sand and bottles with interesting shapes, the teens made classic sand art to bring a bit of the beach to their rooms. From the water to the sky, teens used jars, cotton balls, colored dye, and glitter to create amazing galaxy jars to bring outer space down to Earth. To light their adventures, teens created lanterns with battery powered tea lights to add a bit of customized glow to their space. To go on an adventure, it's important to be able to think critically and problem solve. For the teen that likes to make everything from scratch, they had the opportunity to create their own backpacks from cardboard and duct tape. They could make the backpack in any shape, but they had to use clever thinking to create the right sizes of cardboard and connect them properly. Teens also had to use their engineering knowledge and problem-solving skills to design and build boats that could float using toothpicks. For our last adventure, teens can come to the library at 3 p.m. today to attempt an Apollo 13-themed escape room by solving puzzles and working together with other teens. It's the perfect way to cap off a great summer for teens at the Tiffin-Seneca Public Library! Make sure to turn in all summer reading logs to the library before the end of the day on July 31 to be eligible to win a grand prize. Coming up at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 22, teens can meet local author Victoria Lowery. Her book 'Polly Parker Meets her Shadow' is a story where the titular character must meet destiny head on and strive to learn the six secrets that are prophesied to save the world from ancient, evil bloodlines. 'Polly Parker Meets her Shadow' is about the power of emotion and finding purpose in life. Teens can talk to Victoria Lowery and create vision board together that will help them discover and work toward their dreams and aspiration, just like Polly Parker. Keep an eye out for even more fun for teens, including more escape rooms, the return of our Teen Tuesday afterschool hangout, and a brand-new weekly teen art club. The library is the perfect place for everyone of any age to find something exciting to do, so be sure to keep up with what's happening at the Tiffin-Seneca Public Library!
