Skimming device discovered at IGA

TIFFIN — Customers have reported compromised accounts after a skimming device was discovered at Bassett's IGA, 479 E. Market St. Detective Eric England of the Tiffin Police Department said IGA personnel had reported technical problems with a machine and called a technician for service. The technician, England said, discovered a skimmer on a payment machine, which is believed to have been placed at IGA between the first part of July and Aug. 1, when it was discovered. England said reports of compromised accounts began to be received by police Aug. 6. At this time, he said, all accounts reported as compromised have been linked to EBT/Ohio Direction cards. England said anyone who recently has shopped at Bassett's IGA should monitor their account activity and report anything suspicious to police. EBT cardholders, he said, can track transactions through the program's app. Providing suspicious transaction information will help police "try to narrow down the date and time" that the skimmer was active, England said. The incident remains under investigation by Tiffin police and the Ohio Investigative Unit, he said.
