Marathon in Carey hit by storm

CAREY – Tuesday, parts of Seneca, Wyandot, and Crawford counties were hit with severe weather conditions from high winds, to thunderstorms and several residential areas on tornado watch. One of those areas was on North Vance Street in Carey, where the wind got to be so strong it ripped down the overhead of some of the pumps at the O'Flaherty Marathon, damaging one of the pumps. "What's done is done.," Pam O'Flaherty Ferguson, owner of the gas station, said. "It's too early to know the extent of the damage, but one of our pumps needs to be replaced." The family-owned and operated gas station will continue its business as usual while repairs are made. "I was actually here last night, and it was pointed out to me by a customer before later completely collapsing," said O'Flaherty. John Spahr, Emergency Management administrator for Seneca County, shared that Seneca County did not see much damage. "There were two roads with branches down, one being Riverlea Park, off of Riverside Drive in Tiffin, and one on Perry Street," said Spahr. "Power was temporarily lost, but quickly restored, and there were no extensive damages reported in the county at this time." According to the National Weather Service's website, at the Findlay airport there were winds up to 24 mph reported to be blowing Northeast at 3:53 p.m., with thunderstorms to follow until roughly 7 p.m.
