There's No Place Like the Tiffin-Seneca Public Library!

The film adaptation of L. Frank Baum's novel 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz' was released 85 years ago, and the Tiffin-Seneca Public Library will be celebrating this classic novel and family film with a week full of fun! Along with special events for all ages, we will host a weeklong trivia contest for adults and a library-wide scavenger hunt for children. At 6:30 p.m. Aug. 19 we'll have an interactive showing of 'The Wizard of Oz' film. If you've never been to an interactive movie at the Library, you're in for a real treat! Bags full of props and goodies will be handed out before the movie, and as everyone watches, our staff will guide your family with prompts that will make you feel like you are part of the movie. It's a unique and new way to experience such a classic film! Think you know everything about 'The Wizard of Oz'? Adults can join us at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 20 to learn about the history behind what is widely acknowledged as America's first fairytale. Librarian Laura Keyes will join us via Zoom to share the story of L. Frank Baum and how he created such an iconic piece of American culture. Teens can work together to follow the yellow brick road and help Dorothy escape Oz! From 3-4:30 p.m. Aug. 21 teens in grades 6-12 can participate in a 'Wizard of Oz' themed escape room by solving puzzles, thinking creatively, and clicking their heels three times to find their way home! At 10 a.m. Aug. 22, we'll have a 'Wizard of Oz'-themed storytime that is perfect for families. Along with our usual fun, Dorothy will be joining us as well! We'll have stories, songs, and games that will bring Oz right to the Tiffin-Seneca Public Library. At 10 a.m. Aug. 23 join us for a morning matinee of American Oz, part of PBS's American Experience documentary series. This film explores the life and influences of L. Frank Baum as he traveled the country in pursuit of success and eventually combines his experiences with a sense of childlike wonder to create his fantastic tale of adventure and self-discovery. This film is for adults and is two hours long. Along with our week of magic and fun, the Tiffin-Seneca Public Library has plenty to do for all ages! At 2 p.m. Aug. 13 children can attend our Crafternoon event, where they can use craft supplies to create whatever they can imagine. We'll also have a few guided crafts as well. Preschool, baby, and toddler storytimes will resume in September, along with special programs for elementary students. And don't forget about our monthly LEGO Club on the first Saturday of every month from 2-4 p.m. Hope to see you soon at the Library!
