Sandusky Co. leads state in tourism sales growth

FREMONT — The Chamber of Commerce of Sandusky County celebrated the Sandusky County Visitors Bureau with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday to unveil their new welcome sign and announce the county as #1 in the entire state of Ohio in tourism sales growth. According to the latest economic impact report by Tourism Economics, an Oxford Economics Company, tourism in Ohio is a $56 billion industry, and Sandusky County is at the forefront of this booming sector, according to a release. In 2023 alone, tourism in Sandusky County generated an impressive $229.3 million. Between 2021 and 2023, Sandusky County experienced an extraordinary 31% increase in tourism sales growth, outpacing all other counties in the state. "This achievement reflects the passion and commitment of the Visitors Bureau team in promoting Sandusky County as a premier travel destination," said Tyler Kneeskern, CEO/ president of the Chamber of Commerce of Sandusky County, in a release. "It's through strong partnerships and ongoing investment in attractions, events, and local businesses that Sandusky County has been able to make this growth possible."
