Mercy Health adds space to Obstetrics

TIFFIN — Mercy Health offers more space to new mothers at its Tiffin Hospital Family Birthing Center. The project cost the hospital just over $3 million and added more space to the obstetrics department as well as the opportunity for new mothers to stay in the same room throughout their birth-giving journey. Mercy Health Director of Public Relations and Communications Erica Blake says the expansion was needed due to the OB department's consistent growth, which has resulted in more staff being added and a rising number of other OB departments being closed around the state. "Mercy Health recognizes the importance of ensuring access to high-quality care and prioritized this investment to support care for families in Seneca County and our surrounding communities." The project took a year to complete and now offers 10 labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum rooms, three recovery rooms, a triage room and development of supply areas and lactation services. If mothers or infants require a higher level of care, Blake maintains that it is an easy transition to Mercy Health - St. Vincent in Toledo. "We are extremely excited about the improved patient experience enabled by this expansion. By increasing our LDRP room capacity, this often allows moms to have a more comfortable stay in the same room throughout their labor, delivery and recovery stay at the hospital instead of shifting rooms post-delivery," said Blake. The expanded birthing center is located at 45 St. Lawrence Drive and is open 24/7.
