Tornadoes complete 3-peat in SBC Lake

HURON — Clyde's Joshua Swartz captured medalist honors but Columbian battled past him and the Fliers to claim the boys Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division Tournament by two strokes Tuesday at Sawmill Creek Golf Club.It's TC's third straight SBC Lake title in boys golf.Going into the league tournament Tuesday, TC, Norwalk and Clyde were all tied in points for the SBC Lake title, essentially setting up a winner-take-all tournament, TC coach Tony Vasko said. "It was great to control our own destiny so we knew what we had to do," Vasko said. "Clyde played really well today and it came down to the last two holes today … it was stressful, but the boys persevered."The league was really good this year and it was fun every match. We knew we had a target on our back to begin the year and the boys embraced it. Today, Eli Snyder and Brayden Boes each had to make clutch putts to clinch the win for us, which were bogeys and putts longer than five feet to secure the victory."Swartz fired a 75 to lead everyone, but the Tornadoes countered with twin 79s from Jace Riesen and Logan Smith to set the tone in a 331-333 title win.Bellevue finished a close third with a 334, followed by Norwalk (340) and Perkins (355). Sandusky did not field a full team.Boes backed Riesen and Smith with an 81 for TC and Snyder added a 92.Ryan Arnold (99) and Mason Roszman (107) rounded out the champion Tornadoes.Nico Carroll followed Swartz with an 83 for the runner-up Fliers, Brayden Olson shot an 86 and Gavyn Boggs ended with an 89.Clyde's Mitch Newsome (94) and Chase Castle (98) also competed.Samuel Cooper carded a 79 for Bellevue, Tyson Baptista and Blake Sutherland shot twin 83s and Jackson Decker added an 89.Caden Lindsey (95) and Preston Spurlock (105) rounded out the Redmen."What can I really say about this group of five seniors, they've really set a standard of work ethic and the amount of time and effort put into their bodies and into their games, it paid dividends and set a standard for the future," Vasko said. "After we finished fourth our of five schools in the first league shootout, we never panicked and we stayed the course and controlled our own destiny and we knew we had to win out to have a chance at another title. So we won our own Shootout, the Norwalk Shootout and the league tournament today to win it and it's all due to the work these boys put in."Also, I have to give credit to assistant coach Daniel Gilbert, who kept the team and myself calm today as it was getting down towards the end. He had to talk me from the ledge a few times today, so all the credit goes to him for keeping us steady." Tigers third at girls N10 TourneySHELBY — Three Seneca East players broke 100 and Carey's Adi Kramer carded an 18-hole school record Tuesday to top area efforts at the girls Northern 10 Athletic Conference Tournament at Woody Ridge.Wynford stormed past Colonel Crawford 363-382 for the team championship, with Seneca East bettering Carey 396-409 for third.Buckeye Central held off Upper Sandusky 417-429 for fifth and Bucyrus ended seventh with a 511. Mohawk did not field a full team.Isabel Stockmaster and Bailee Fortney each shot a 96 and Addison Dawson had a 97 to lead Seneca East.
