Nye's Week 6 high school football power rankings

We are officially halfway through the high school football regular season. After two somewhat close games I've covered, I'm riding a streak of three straight running clocks, which happens with some mismatches on the schedule. Through halfway, there is a clear No. 1 team in our area and then others are still finding their way as conference schedules will ramp up as we enter the later part of the season. I'm not that far off from my preseason prediction, but having Carey at No. 1 and Mohawk at No. 8 doesn't look the greatest right now.But here were the Week 5 rankings last week: 1. Hopewell-Loudon 2. Calvert 3. Mohawk 4. Clyde 5. Seneca East 6. Carey 7. Columbian 8. Bellevue 9. Lakota 10. Buckeye Central 11. Upper Sandusky 12. Fostoria.This week, the SBC Lake begins conference play with Sandusky coming to Tiffin and Clyde traveling to Perkins, so we'll find out more about TC and Clyde this week.But, here we go for Week 6:1. H-L (5-0, 2-0 SBC River): Last week's 30-0 win over Lakota was the first time this season I saw the Chieftains in person. Honestly, it could've been about 50-0 or 60-0, but with the running clock and coach Brian Colatruglio resting his starters, they got enough to start the running clock and it stayed that way. H-L dominated up front and didn't allow Lakota to get anything going offensively. It didn't even need an all-star performance from Braylon Martinez either, which is scary. The Chieftains are just rolling right now. A trip to 1-4 Margaretta begins the second half for H-L.2. Clyde (4-1): The win last week over Port Clinton gave coach Ryan Carter his 100th win at Clyde. What a great achievement for one of the best coaches in the area. The Fliers routed Port Clinton, but they do begin the SBC Lake slate with a trip to Perkins, who has demolished pretty much everyone to this point except Harvest Prep. We'll find out just how good Clyde is this week.3. Mohawk (4-1, 2-0 N10): The Warriors continued to roll last week with a 63-0 shellacking of Bucyrus. In the last four weeks, the Warriors have outscored opponents 188-27. That's not bad, especially since one of those games came against Colonel Crawford on the road. But with BC (2-3), Wynford (1-4) and Upper Sandusky (2-3) up next, Mohawk is in prime position to make a run at the N10 title. 4. Seneca East (3-2, 2-0 N10): Before a thrilling 34-31 win at Carey last week, the Tigers hadn't beaten the Blue Devils since the 2018 season. That was the season the Tigers made a state semifinal run. Nicholas Parks was spectacular last week throwing and running the ball and if he continues that stellar play, SE will be a headache to deal with for opposing defenses. If the Tigers get through Upper Sandusky this week, it creates a big showdown with Colonel Crawford next week.5. Calvert (3-2, 1-1 SBC River): If Calvert could just get its offense going...The Senecas had a tough Week 5 as it gave up only 10 points on the road at Gibsonburg, but they couldn't get on the scoreboard themselves. If the Senecas could put a complete game together, they'd compete with anyone, but since Week 1, they've only scored 47 points in four games. Lucas comes to Frost-Kalnow Stadium this week as the Senecas step outside of the SBC River, so maybe that will get the offense on track, but Lucas has been a pretty solid program.6. Columbian (2-3): I certainly don't want to say this is a make-or-break week for Columbian, but I'm sort of saying it's a must-win. The Tornadoes for one half last week looked like the team I'm sure coach Judd Lutz envisioned it could be this season leading at Huron 14-3. But that quickly flipped on its head as Huron completely dominated the second half. With games at Clyde and at Perkins left yet, the Tornadoes are sitting at No. 15 in their region with the watered-down 16 teams in the playoffs now, a win against Sandusky this week would do wonders to the players' confidence and the momentum heading to Clyde next week at 1-0 in the league. The Blue Streaks have won two in a row coming into this Friday, so they will certainly not just lay down for TC.7. Carey (1-4, 1-1 N10): For Carey standards, it's been an underwhelming start to the season for the Blue Devils. However, the N10 isn't out of the question just yet for the Blue Devils as they still play Colonel Crawford and Mohawk. They should be able to rebound at Wynford this week, but if they don't...8. Upper Sandusky (2-3, 1-1 N10): The Rams got a win over Wynford last week and now they have a big opportunity to create some chaos in the N10 if they'd steal a win at Seneca East this week.9. Bellevue (2-3): It was a tough week as Jalen Santoro returned to Bellevue and crushed the Redmen as Perkins shutout Bellevue. The Redmen will have to bounce back in a hurry as it plays unbeaten Edison this week to begin the SBC Bay conference slate. 10. BC (2-3, 1-1 N10): Buckeye Central just so happened to play Colonel Crawford coming off its first loss of the season. We'll see if the Bucks can slow down, at all, Mohawk this week.11. Lakota (1-4, 0-2 SBC River): The Raiders are in the middle of a three-game streak of road games. The road doesn't get any easier for the Raiders with trips to Willard (2-3) and Gibsonburg (3-2) the next two weeks.12. Fostoria (1-4, 0-2 NBC): Speaking of nothing getting easier, Fostoria's schedule with 5-0 teams Oak Harbor and Eastwood the next two Fridays. Yeah … ouch.
