Young-led Tigers get to 3-0 in N10

ATTICA –The Seneca East Tigers had a lot to celebrate for their Homecoming football game as they took down the Upper Sandusky Rams 14-7 in Northern 10 Athletic Conference play Friday night. "You know with weather like this, you can't make mistakes. We had a lot of momentum coming into this week." said head coach of the Tigers Ed Phillips. "You have to be able to win a game in this fashion. You have to be able to play defense and you have to run the ball." That is exactly what the Tigers (4-2, 3-0 N10) did. The Tigers wasted no time in the first quarter of the game, as they would put points on the board. Upper Sandusky fumbled the ball on the two yard line. Taylor Young took matters into his own hands and ran for a 98-yard touchdown, almost completely untouched. Young would not only be responsible for both touchdowns but also for an interception that occurred later in the game. "Young doesn't really think about these things. He just goes for it and is a playmaker," Phillips said. On the Rams next possession, they had an eight-play drive as Ethan Lewis ran for a 1-yard touchdown up the middle. Kobe Beidelschies kicked the extra point tying the game at 7. It would be the only time that the Rams (2-4, 1-2) would be on the scoreboard as they struggled with being able to score at all because of SE's defense. "When we run block, we run the ball a whole lot better," Rams coach Russell Hall said. "And if we don't block, we don't run the ball. We just kept running out of time. We kept hoping for one more possession and more time to be able to run one more play and we just couldn't get it. We would get on one side of the ball and then struggle and then we get to the other side of it and we struggled." The last touchdown for the game was in the second quarter. With three minutes left before halftime, a pass from Nicholas Parks to Young would be good for 36 yard-TD, capping a nine-play drive. The extra point from Aiden Bame was good. Young can now add two more touchdowns to his record for the season bringing it up to 10 and for both of those touchdowns it would come out to 134 yards total just for those. The second half of the football game was completely scoreless between both teams. "The defense in the second half, especially the fourth quarter, was really good. The defensive line just kind of took over and everyone else played really smart," Phillips said. "You know, we talked about being physical in the fourth quarter and being able to look your opponent in the eye. Let them know that you're ready to bring it. We brought it and the kids were just fantastic." Upper Sandusky had multiple shots at the end to make it interesting but the Tigers' defense came up with turnovers to ice the game. "The team never gave up, they kept going and I couldn't be more proud of them. It shows that we are still very much willing to continue in the game," said coach Hall. Things get interesting for Seneca East next week as it welcomes Colonel Crawford (5-1, 2-1) to town.
