Attica Parks seek renewal

The village of Attica is asking voters to consider renewing a tax levy for its park operations. The county auditor estimates the tax will collect $10,000 annually, at a rate not to exceed 0.75 mills for each $1 of taxable value, which amounts to $18 for each $100,000 of the county auditor's appraised value, for 5 years, commencing in 2025, first due in calendar year 2026. According to Mayor Louis Sanders, the money from the levy will be utilized throughout the village's parks. "A lot of people don't realize the village is responsible for three parks," said Sanders. He explained that most of the money brought in would go toward operational costs. Nicole Lenhart of the village's Parks and Recreation committee, said, "To my knowledge, the levy has been in place since at least the 70's." Additionally, it was noted that the levy has not changed over the years. Regarding what the money would be put towards, Lenhart said operational costs are the primary benefactor. "We are currently working on reworking the Legion Park, pulling up old asphalt, moving equipment and adding T-ball fields," said Lenhart. Speaking on behalf of the village's elected officials, Lenhart said: "This Levy is very important for the future of all of our parks! We have a great team, working hard to improve all of the parks, it will take time, but the funding is very important to succeed with upgrades and upkeep of all of the parks." "We have a lot of fun and exciting things coming to the parks and the next few years, including trees being planted at Myers Park,"she said. Including adding another set of swings and future hopes of doing something with the pool and adding more for the community. Lenhart said that the village plans to apply for a few grants to buy some new equipment. "As long as we have support from the community, I think that we can make all of our parks wonderful again," said Lenhart.
