Martinez earns top SBC River Division honor

Hopewell-Loudon's Braylon Martinez claimed the top honor and eight teammates joined him on the first team when the Sandusky Bay Conference released its all-conference River Division list Tuesday.The Chieftains actually had 13 first-team selections, but Martinez and three others finished as first-teamers on both sides of the ball.Martinez fueled H-L's offense by rushing for 787 yards and team-best 16 touchdowns during the regular season while catching 30 passes for 337 yards and five scores. He added 17 tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery as defensive back.His effort helped H-L, which plays in Friday's regional quarterfinals, become the first team to win five consecutive outright SBC football titles.Teammates Jack Colatruglio, Aiden Ewald and Will Nutter also landed on the offensive and defensive first teams.Colatruglio made it as a receiver and defensive back, Ewald did so as an offensive guard and defensive lineman, and Nutter got the nod as an offensive tackle and defensive lineman. All three were also unanimous choices on both offense and defense.The offensive first team also included Chieftains Jacoby Ellis at quarterback, Wyatt Crow at end and Cooper Snyder at center. Snyder was another unanimous choice.On defense, H-L linebackers Mason Reinhart and Brayden Brickman finished as unanimous first-team picks.Other area first-team offensive players included Lakota receiver Grant Bomer, and Calvert's Logan DeMoss at receiver, Cal Warnement at running back, Cam Bagent at guard and Conner Moyer at tackle. DeMoss, Bagent and Moyer were each unanimous choices.DeMoss and Bagent also landed on the first-team defense, with DeMoss an unanimous pick at defensive back and Bagent getting the nod on the line.The Senecas also had first-team picks in lineman Carter Wolph and linebacker Carter Cook, while Lakota's Brandon Leal was a unanimous selection as a specialist.Local athletes gaining second-team offensive honors included Hopewell-Loudon receiver Matt Wyman, Calvert guard Cameron Moyer and Lakota tackle Max Nordhaus.Area players landing on the defensive second team were Nordhaus as lineman and Bomer as a linebacker for Lakota, Hopewell-Loudon defensive back Luca SanGregory, and the Calvert trio of Warnement at linebacker, Nolan Lee at defensive back and DeMoss as a specialist.Wolph also landed on the honorable mention list as an offensive end for Calvert.The defensive honorable mention list included Hopewell-Loudon linebacker Thomas Daniel, Calvert defensive back Xavier Kimmet, and the Lakota trio of lineman Paul Williams and Steven Hornyak and defensive back Nate Griggson. Dukeshire gains pair of first-team SBC honorsClyde's Brady Dukeshire gained first-team selections on both sides of the ball to highlight local efforts when the Sandusky Bay Conference released its Lake Division all-conference list Tuesday.Dukeshire ended as a unanimous first-team pick as an offensive tackle, and also took first-team honors as a defensive lineman for the Fliers.Receiver Brayden Olson and running back Adam Young also picked up first-team offensive honors for Clyde, while Kameron Shortridge did the same on defense as a defensive back. Shortridge was a unanimous pick.Columbian's Ethan Reynolds was a unanimous selection as a first-team offensive guard.Area second-team offensive players included Clyde center Gavyn Boggs and Columbian's Leo Diamantopoulos at center, Johnny Bremyer at receiver, Masen Seitz at running back and Bradley Willman at tackle.Locals on the second-team defensive unit were Columbian lineman Neven Neuman and linebacker Brady Bonnell, and Clyde linebacker Hector Garza and Brennan Wilson at defensive back.The honorable mention list for offense included Columbian center Deacon Albright, and the Clyde duo of Wilson at quarterback and Mason Flewelling at end.Area honorable mention defensive players were Columbian lineman Luke Kerschner and Clyde linebacker Cedric Messer. Kubach tops list of Bellevue honoreesTrenton Kubach gained a first-team nod on offense and an honorable mention award on defense to top Bellevue's list of honorees when the Sandusky Bay Conference released its all-conference Bay Division selections Tuesday.Kubach ended as a unanimous first-team pick as an offensive tackle for the Redmen, and added an honorable mention selection as a defensive lineman.Mason Flicker landed on the second team offense as a receiver for Bellevue.The Redmen's second-team defensive picks include lineman Reid Claus and linebacker Nolan Hartman.
