Carey Chief Doe resigns

Carey police chief Ryan Doe has resigned. After only two years of working for the village of Carey, Doe gave his resignation letter to newly promoted mayor Chad Kin on Nov. 7. The letter thanks Kin for meeting him shortly after Kin was sworn in as mayor and says he is moving on to a new administrative role in law enforcement after being approached about the position earlier this year. His letter said he was approached by a "law enforcement official concerning a possible position with his agency. Unfortunately, this opportunity did not happen. However, the process did bring to light my training, experience, knowledge and skill set to another law enforcement executive," resulting in a job offer. Doe's letter does not reveal which agency he will be working for but says the position offers him more benefits than his position with the village of Carey. "There are various benefits to the position and it will allow me to return to a role where I will not be tasked with scheduling and expectations to fill multiple roles and scheduling requirements," the letter read. When asked if his reasoning for resigning had anything to do with a recent controversy having to do with accusations from several village employees of bullying from Kin and council member Evaristo Hernandez, which resulted in the resignations of the previous village mayor, village administrator, fiscal officer and two council members resigned. Doe said his reasons were included in his resignation letter. Doe's last day in office is Nov. 27 but he is using several days of PTO and will be employed until Dec. 6.
