County says goodbye to Shuff, welcomes Busdeker

TIFFIN — Thursday's commissioners' meeting marks the final meeting of Commissioner Tyler Shuff, as Brent Busdeker will replace him in January. County Administrator Barb Patterson was the first to give goodbyes to Shuff. "I'd like to say thank you, Tyler, for being with me for the year and a half I've done this," Patterson said. "Every now and again, he passes me notes during our meeting with little words of encouragement, I appreciate that. I appreciate everything you've done as commissioner. You've done a great job with the county." Commissioner Bill Frankart also said farewell to Shuff, wishing him luck with his future endeavors. Incoming Commissioner Brent Busdeker then thanked Shuff for his support. "I look forward to seeing where you go from here," Busdeker said. "You're going to do a great job," Shuff said to Busdeker. "It makes it easier on me when you know there's a good person next to you that's ready to step up and take the reins." Shuff then read a farewell he had put together before the meeting. "I'm honored to have had the opportunity to serve the residents of Seneca County," he said. "Being elected by the voters has been one of the biggest honors of my life thus far. Together we've accomplished a lot of wins here for our citizens in the county. Truthfully, it has been very challenging but worth hard work. "Everyone sitting up here with me deeply cares about this community. It's difficult to take a pause from doing what you love. I have full confidence that Seneca County will continue to move forward." Shuff then discussed his career in public service and as an elected official, saying he used the time to leave the county in a better place than when he came to public service. "Seneca County deserves the best and I want to be at my best," he continued. "This has been, hands down, probably the toughest decision I've made in not running again. But at the end of the day, I take a hard look in the mirror and I need to take some time to recharge my battery." Also, the board passed the following supplemental appropriations and resolutions at the meeting. $42,152.87 for jail salaries $894.40 for jail Medicare $62,372.25 for jail PERs $5,412.08 for road salaries $4,730.09 for road PERs An adjustment of $22,636.53 to the County Sales Tax Revenues Fund for other expenses An adjustment of $478,969.81 to the County Sales Tax Revenues Fund for a transfer out $6,507.55 to the American Rescue Plan Fund for contract services $141.26 to the Seneca County Employees Health Fund for life insurance premiums $637.60 to the Seneca County Employees Health Fund for health insurance premiums $2,503.61 to the Seneca County Employees Health Fund for supplies Resolutions Rescinding resolution 2024-255 Increasing the indigent council fees for in and out of court representation with the submission of bills to the court on or after Jan. 1, 2025 Authorizing the executive of amendment number 3 to an agreement of sublease with respect to Seneca County Youth Center Authorizing a contract service agreement with Wyandot County Board of Commissioners for the receipt, custody and care of Wyandot County juveniles on behalf of the Seneca County Youth Center for 2025 Authorizing the Seneca County Commissioners to enter into a contract with Engle-Shook Funeral Home on behalf of the Seneca County Coroner Appointing Arrin Allen to the Seneca County Board of Developmental Disabilities for the term expiring Dec. 31, 2028 Appointing Jim Oliver to the Seneca County Board of Developmental Disabilities for the term expiring Dec. 31, 2028 Appointing Kim Radison to the Seneca County Board of Developmental Disabilities for the term expiring Dec. 31, 2028 Appointing Michelle Smith to the Seneca County Board of Developmental Disabilities for the term expiring Dec. 31, 2028 The next meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. Jan. 2 at the commissioners' office, 111 Madison St., Tiffin.
