TC's Fortney, Steinmetz lead the way

It was a successful Loan Depot Home for the Holidays Pentathlon Saturday at the Tiffin YMCA for host Columbian. Addison Fortney won the girls pentathlon, while teammate Olyvia Steinmetz won both the 50 and 100 freestyle races as the TC girls won the meet with a score of 571.5 over Huron (301.5) and Upper Sandusky (278.5), who was third. Fostoria was eighth (73).In the boys meet, Huron claimed the crown with 265.5 points, while Upper Sandusky was third (162.5), TC was fifth (106.5) and Fostoria came in seventh (50).For the pentathlon, swimmers competed in the 50 fly, 50 back, 50 breast and the 50 free for a combined time. The top 12 times swam in the 200 individual medley, which Fortney won in a time of 2:24.83.Upper Sandusky's Ellie Zeller was third (2:27.70) and TC's Kennedy Slosser was fourth (2:28.03).In the 50 free open event, Steinmetz finished with a winning time of 27.44 seconds for TC, while Alaina Sherman was right behind her in second (28.94), Ella Conley took fourth (31.62) and Fostoria's Amia Martinez claimed eighth (34.12).Steinmetz also won the 100 free open with a sizzling time of 59.44 seconds. Sherman was behind her again in second (1:04.66), Conley was fourth (1:11.93) and Fostoria's Martinez was seventh (1:16.83).In the boys meet, Vermilion's Cole Rini claimed the 200 IM (2:13.95), while Upper Sandusky's Aden Davis took third (2:19.05).In the 50 free open, Norwalk's Raymond McCreary won in 25.96 seconds, while Fostoria's Devon Miller took fifth (29.19).In the 100 free open, McCreary also won that in a time of 59.34 seconds for the Truckers. Stockaders fend off RedskinsOLD FORT — Mackenzie Fortney led all scorers and Ryen Smith nearly had a double-double Saturday to help Old Fort hold off Arcadia 48-45.Fortney tossed in 21 points, scoring 13 in a key third quarter to help the Stockaders outscore Arcadia 17-6 and grab a 38-34 lead.Smith tallied nine points, nine rebounds and three assists for Old Fort (4-5). Adelyn Dick chipped in nine points and five rebounds and Fortney also grabbed six boards.Liberty Voges paced the Redskins (7-3) with 15 points, Addy Colman scored 12 and Ryleigh Bostic had eight. Senecas extend win streak to 7Calvert continued its good play Saturday with a 66-32 rout of Cardinal Stritch as it was Calvert's seventh straight win this season. Rams rough up BucyrusUPPER SANDUSKY — Upper Sandusky dominated from the start Saturday in what became a 55-17 rout of Northern 10 Athletic Conference foe Bucyrus.The Rams (6-3, 4-1 N10) jumped out 18-3 by the end of the first quarter en route to a 34-9 halftime advantage.Grace Walton led all scorers with 19 points for Upper Sandusky, and snared four steals. Addy Newman netted nine points and Ellee Ham had eight.Erica Ruhlen and Ham each grabbed five rebounds, Abi Gottfried dished four assists and Rylee McCreary tallied three steals.Information on the Bucyrus players was not provided. Scoreless second dooms BCCAREY — Buckeye Central rallied in the fourth quarter, but couldn't overcome a scoreless second period Saturday in a 46-41 Northern 10 Athletic Conference loss to Carey.The Buckettes ended the first quarter clinging to a 16-13 lead, but Carey (6-4, 3-2 N10) blanked them 15-0 in the second to vault ahead 28-16.Buckeye Central (3-7, 1-5) outscored the Blue Devils 14-13 in the third quarter and 11-5 in the fourth after that, but couldn't catch Carey.Aleyse Seifert led the Buckettes with 18 points. Bellevue gets by Polar BearsBELLEVUE — Not every win is going to be pretty.With two teams so evenly balanced, it came as no surprise that Bellevue's non-league game Saturday with Margaretta came down to the final minute.The Lady Red knocked down free throws late — something they struggled with in the first half — to slip past Margaretta 44-39.Raegan Heck paced Margaretta with 13 points.Bellevue was led by Kaitlyn Turinsky's 16 points and seven rebounds. The Lady Red will get a regional semifinal rematch Monday when they host Copley (8-1). The Indians eliminated Bellevue from the postseason last year. Warriors stymie GibsonburgSYCAMORE — Mohawk's defense clamped down after the first quarter and four Warriors scored in double digits Saturday in a 65-24 romp past Gibsonburg.The unbeaten Warriors (6-0) jumped out 21-13 by the end of the first quarter and never let Gibsonburg score more than five points in a period after that.Hunter Haynes keyed Mohawk with 18 points, Kahne Hayman tossed in 14, Connor Flood had 13 and Boomer Cleveland chipped in 10. Flood also grabbed nine rebounds.Aiden Senters topped the Golden Bears (5-3) with seven points. Stockaders turn away Toledo ChristianOLD FORT — Old Fort repulsed a rally in the second half Saturday to clip Toledo Christian 59-58.The Stockaders entered halftime up 26-18, but Toledo Christian outscored them 40-33 from there to cut the deficit.Both teams shot well, with Old Fort using an 11-of-23 showing on 3-pointers to end 22 of 52 overall from the field while the Eagles finished 19 of 41 on field goals.Ryan Adelsperger hit five 3-pointers en route to a team-high 22 points for the Stockaders (5-1).Dimitri Carter backed him with 12 points and four assists, Isaac Gallagher scored nine points and Tyson Frisch tossed in eight points.Silas Mickel also connected on five 3-pointers and led everyone with 23 points for Toledo Christian (4-4). TC led 16-8 after one stop and then 28-18 at the half. But the Tornadoes had a tough time closing out the Little Giants as they outscored TC 42-23 in the second half in a 60-51 loss.Zach Shawberry led a balanced TC (3-6) attack with 11 points, while DaShawn Russell and Logan Gooding each added 10 and Owen Hickey finished with eight.DeKentre Hardin paced the Little Giants (6-3) with 21 points. Tigers bounce back in a big wayLAKESIDE -- After a tough N10 loss at home Friday night to Colonel Crawford, Seneca East had a short memory on the road at Danbury Saturday. The Tigers dominated the Lakers in an 84-45.Danbury led 12-11 after one quarter and only trailed SE 27-20 at the half, but a 57-25 second half buried Danbury.Lucas Bordner tallied 28 points, eight rebounds, six assists and four steals for the Tigers (7-3), while Brady Bloom added 15 points, Luke Mason recorded 13 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and six steals and Bryler Beamer finished with 11 points and five assists.
