Woman arrested after 100-plus-mph chase

FINDLAY — A woman was arrested in the Toledo area after allegedly leading police departments on a 46-mile, 100-plus-mph chase beginning at a Findlay retail store earlier Friday afternoon. At 12:11 p.m., Findlay police officers were dispatched to Dick's Sporting Goods, 1960 Tiffin Ave., on a call of a retail theft. The suspect, later identified as Angelica M. Delao, of Toledo, left the store with suspected stolen items and traveled in a vehicle to County Road 99, where FPD officers located her and the vehicle, a release from FPD states. A traffic stop was attempted, but Delao failed to stop and entered northbound I-75. A vehicle pursuit was initiated. The vehicle pursuit traveled along I-75 at speeds of approximately 100-115 miles per hour. Ohio State Highway Patrol was contacted for assistance and joined the pursuit. Delao left I-75 and continued eastbound on Ohio 582 in Wood County. Speeds were maintained around 100 miles per hour for much of the pursuit, the release states. She then went northbound on Ohio 199, then westbound on Roachton Road near Perrysburg. Perrysburg Township Police Department and Rossford Police Department assisted with the pursuit near this point. The suspect went northbound on North Dixie Highway in Perrysburg, before heading northbound on I-475 and merging back onto northbound I-75. Speeds were maintained at 100-plus miles per hour. Delao's vehicle hit another motorist's vehicle on the highway near this area, but no injuries have been reported, the release states. The suspect exited I-75 at Collingwood Boulevard, and was slowed down due to heavier civilian traffic, it states. Rossford Police Department initiated vehicle-to-vehicle contact with Delao, spinning out her vehicle. Delao then rammed a Perrysburg Township Police Department vehicle before being boxed in and stopped. At that point, she was taken into custody without incident. The pursuit stretched for approximately 46.5 miles over 29 minutes. Delao is incarcerated at the Hancock County Justice Center. She is being held on two felony charges, of theft and fleeing and eluding. Police have requested an additional charge of felonious assault on a police officer.
