Seneca County snowfall inbound

SENECA COUNTY — Residents of Seneca County are gearing up for roughly 2-4 inches of snow, according to the latest reports from the National Weather Service. According to Sheriff Fred Stevens, those who can avoid traveling should do so. The snowfall is expected to begin between 3-5 p.m., and will begin to pick up as the night goes on, and is expected to continue into Saturday morning. "The thing about mother nature is she is unpredictable," said Stevens. He continued by explaining reports from NWS shared in a briefing meeting this morning estimated roughly 2.93" depending on lake effect, as well as the wind, etc. "On a positive note, however, it will start on a Friday afternoon when the traffic has begun to die down a little bit," said Stevens. Staying Safe For those who cannot avoid traveling, Tiffin Police Chief David Pauly and Fostoria Police Chief Gabe Wedge, in addition to Stevens, have put together a list of helpful tips to stay safe when traveling in inclement weather. Firstly, give yourself extra time to travel – don't rush or speed. "I recommend giving yourself an extra 30 minutes, it never hurts to be early," said Wedge, who has been monitoring the storm for the previous 24 hours. Secondly, ensure your vehicle is properly equipped to travel. Travelers should ensure there are appropriate fluid levels in their car (antifreeze, windshield wiper fluid), as well as to ensure there are not any low or flat tires. "While preparing your car for the weather, it's a good idea to keep a few 'Ohio Essentials' in your vehicle, such as a blanket, flashlight, water and some light snacks – like granola bars," said Pauly. "Additionally, try to have as close to a full tank of gas as possible," added Pauly. Stevens explained the utilization of these levels in Seneca County further, noting that while they are generally for the public's safety, they also assist county snow plow drivers and other employees by keeping roads clear of traffic and abandoned vehicles. "Something to consider is that when we have to call an emergency snow level, first we have to think about the majority of the county before we make a call. The second part is that the cities, villages and municipalities don't all share the same wind as some of the county roads and flatter areas in the county," said Stevens. "By obeying the levels, it allows the snow plow drivers to complete their routes more quickly," said Stevens.
