Blue Devils snag first N10 crown

VAN BUREN — Nathan Gery took third at 215 pounds and Isaac Peters ended second at 285 pounds to nudge Carey past Mohawk by just three points Saturday for the title at the Northern 10 Athletic Conference Tournament Championships.The win by the Blue Devils snapped a streak of six conference titles by Mohawk. It also marked the first N10 wrestling crown for Carey since the conference started with the 2014-15 season and the program's first since claiming the now defunct Midland Athletic League crown in 2013-14.Gery pinned Buckeye Central's Jayden Ash (:33) in their match for third before Asher Swerlein of Bucyrus pinned Peters (2:39) in their title bout.Despite the loss, the placement points earned by Peters helped Carey top Mohawk 132 1/2-129 1/2.Seneca East took third with 104 points, followed by Bucyrus (97), Upper Sandusky (87), New Riegel (32) and Buckeye Central (8).Along with Gery and Peters, 11 other Blue Devils placed to help Carey gain its title, led by championships from 150-pounder Jordan Hertel and 165-pounder Mason Rickle.
