Unliked Munich analogy

I agree with Professor Arnold Oliver and his dislike for the overused analogy of Munich in connection with the risk of war. Diplomacy beats war every time, when war would be worse than peace. It's a different matter, though, when an aggressor has started a war with the aim of conquering a peaceful nation in order to grab its territory and natural resources and to uproot its national sense of identity. As desirable as peace is, a sovereign nation, its leaders and citizens, if invaded, can choose to resist invaders with force, resist non-violently, or acquiesce without protest. I don't know if Russia had tried diplomatic persuasion on Ukraine, but Ukraine evidently sensed that it was right to resist Russian invasion with military force. Apparently the Ukrainians felt they had a chance to defeat and expel Russia, despite the greater resources of the invaders. They must have understood the virtue of their position and the vice of the Russians, their record for domination, rape, torture, exploitation and corruption in the Soviet era. The more recent Putin record of unfreedom, assassination and spying on its citizens must have appeared intolerable to the Ukrainians. Professor Oliver's disappointment with President Biden's refusal to meet with Russian delegates could be understood as based on his long experience with a nation notorious for its lies, undermining of communications in election campaigns, and neocolonial adventurism. It may be concluded that instead of comparing communication with Russia to Neville Chamberlain's appeasement of Hitler, there could be the recollection of some American presidents' statements that we don't negotiate with terrorists. P.S. The use of comparisons of current events to historical always lacks weight, because we are merely speculating about the aptness of the comparison, since we don't know the outcome of the current event. Some commentators in Europe expressed shock at the proposed deal between the U.S. and Russia, in which our president hints at ending support for Ukraine, whose president is called a dictator by President Trump, and expecting us to possess half its mineral resources as repayment for our military aid (most of which pays American arms manufacturers). Under President Biden, America had supported an invaded nation sorely dependent on this aid. The American president now does not bear comparison with Chamberlain. Readers who know a bit of history can draw other comparisons to past betrayers.
