Small engine repair shop opens

Small engine repair has a new home in Tiffin. Jake Crum is the owner of R&M Small Engine Repair, offering a customer service-focused resource for those needing work on small equipment and machines. Crum said he was inspired to open the shop by his two daughters, who "just love it out there with me." The girls enjoy working with him on projects, he said, and being home more with his family was important to him. Opening R&M was the culmination of "being a father of two beautiful girls whose curiosity in what I am working on and getting dirty has started a bond over small engines and how they work," Crum said. Crum said he always has enjoyed working with his hands and "tearing everything apart." "The biggest thing is curiosity," he said. That adventurous nature led him to a career in industrial, maintenance and engineering settings, working in different career fields to advance his knowledge and skills. Crum currently works at American Fine Sinter, he said, in addition to running R&M. According to the company's website, rmsmallenginerepair.com, the company services mowers, generators, snow blowers, pressure washers, tillers and trimmers. Services include oil/filter change, blade sharpening and balancing, cleaning and replacement of air filters, new spark plugs, adjustment/replacement of belts and cables, battery inspection/replacement, and full machine cleaning/inspection. Crum said "quality is #1" at R&M, and he believes in the importance of building relationships with customers. Another small engine repair shop, Charlie's Small Engine Repair, recently closed, and Crum said he has been "getting a lot of questions" from those seeking small engine services.
